If you could dictate a premise for an otome game what would it be?

I want a game set in modern day where you play as the kick-ass CEO of a big company. She’s remained single to pursue her career, and now that she’s settled into being CEO she has time to date.

Inspired by Bo from Lost Girl being a mature succubus story that still gets steamy and has strong romance. Coming of age story about a succubus figuring out their powers and making decisions about what they care about and what they want their future to be. Navigating difficult parental relationships. And definitely lots of mature steamy sex, romance optional.

Also just kind of haunting epic fantasy hero stories, more like Oathbreaker 1 and 2. But I’m like anti slice of life and super into Dragon Age so I’m biased. :D

Sounds like it would be amazing if done well. I really like otome games with deep plots beyond the romance. That’s why I enjoyed cafe enchante despite the poor translation. I do enjoy a slice of life once in while too though.

An action game with a hero’s journey plot. Think Persona 3 Portable female mc but with 3d models and walkable environments. Most otome games are visual novels. I’d like to see more otome games with a bit more action and gameplay elements.

I haven’t played it so can’t comment on how good it may be, but have you heard of Boyfriend Dungeon? I think it’s supposed to be a dungeon crawler but with dating sword boys. Or something like that, lol

That would be fun. Otome is currently a niche genre that doesn’t have a lot of money behind it, which I think is why we get mostly visual novels. but I don’t see why it shouldn’t. Are you picturing a Zelda-esque game that combines fighting mechanics and romance, or something with unique gameplay mechanics?

I second your desire, OP. It’d be cool to see how the rich man LI behaves when dealing with a financial and probably social equal. Also, I like the power fantasy lol.

If it has management/tycoon game elements that would be great, because I love that genre as well!

As for my own answer, I can’t think of one specific otome I would prefer above all else. But it would be fun to see an otome where MC is a special supernatural creature and she’s not new to being one. Her LIs could be supernatural, too. Just because I’m very used to Special Human Girl captivates Supernatural Character and… well… I already know what it’s like to be human lol. Something different would be cool.

Two scenarios came to mind immediately. 1. Merpeople. The MC is mermaid and LI’s are all mermen, no need to turn it into a “the little mermaid” thing and bring in human LI’s. Bonus, all the LI’s are shirtless all the time. 2. A Coven. The MC is part of a longstanding coven and has grown up as a witch. Dating presents a dilemma because she can’t let her potential partners know she’s a witch until she can trust them, but it’s hard to date someone when you’re hiding being a witch.

Sapient but non-anthropomorphized animals. Could be lighthearted but could also be very dark and show the typical constantly-threatened life of a wild animal except now with sapience to comprehend their circumstances more fully and suffer from existential despair, which is what I’ve been led to believe Watership Down is. I would not be playing the latter. I bring it up because now “will you be a good partner for my survival chances” could become a factor as well as basic chemistry.

Animals are cute and I always liked stories with animal characters, but I preferred them less anthropomorphic in design. Would easily accept that they could talk and had civilization though, a lot of interesting stories need your characters to have relationships and communicate in a way your readers will understand easily.
