  • I think so much about it is awesome (visuals, design of ships and sets, music, etc.) but maybe due to lack of repeated exposure to the movies as a child I don’t feel much about them. The modern movies were especially meh, since they all feel like they are trying to recapture the feeling of people who saw the originals in the cinema in the late 70s and 80s, but without doing anything new. I did quite enjoy the Fallen Order game and will probably play the follow up at some point too though.

  • God, I hate reinstalling Windows. Whenever I see “Try reinstalling Windows” as a serious solution to some tech problem on the Windows forums I feel so irritated because to get everything back to how it was (*hopefully *minus the issue) is basically a half day to full day undertaking because of all the bloat and annoying settings I have to change.

Linux never annoyed me as much as long as I put my home directory on a separate partition, though to be fair, I didn’t use it as much and was never quite as balls deep in custom settings and apps as with Windows due to Windows being a requirement for work.

  • That’s a really great point. I’m hoping that in the future there will be something like community federation on top of server federation, so that friendly communities that are very similar (not just in name) can be joined together to share content and users and blacklist unfriendly communities. Even if this was something that was done on the user/app side, rather than a real Lemmy feature it would make it easier to follow multiple similar communities, and it would be less of an issue to have the same community existing on multiple servers.

  • GFWL was one of the worst attempts to compete with Steam I’ve ever seen, and also one of the worst software experiences I’ve ever had. I never got more than an hour into GTA4 because of it and how intolerant of bullshit software I am. Valve should have put their feet down back then and said “no secondary launcher dependencies”.

Game pass is OK in terms of value if you play lots of games, but the software it uses is not great, despite being leagues better than GFWL. Windows also sucks, but I’m stuck with it due to work :/

  • Although I loved R-Type 2 as a kid, I never really got into the first one for some reason - it was probably because I didn’t have a pirated copy on my Amiga, whereas I did for R-Type 2. Both amazing games though, and I’m very glad R-Type Dimensions exists on Steam.

R-Type Delta is #1 R-Type for me though. Best level design, best music, best ships before it went completely nuts for Final.

  • Nah, it’s not that it’s gotten more expensive, it’s that most of the films are shit or otherwise unsatisfying. Maybe a combination of the two? :)

Of the films I’ve seen at the cinema recently, the last one I remember really enjoying was Joker (which is not even recent), and the most recent one I mostly enjoyed, but then it had a shit cliffhanger ending instead of feeling like a complete film in its own right. I was literally saying to my friend before the film started that Dune pissed me off because of the absolutely shit ending, and then the same fucking thing happened. I don’t go to the cinema and pay $15-20 for the ticket to come out feeling like I watched half a season of some Netflix show. I could have a month of Netflix for the same money, watch what I want at my own convenience and pause/rewind if I need the toilet or want to check something.

I still like going to the cinema, but I feel like the movies have got to be more varied, more surprising, and fucking end properly instead of teasing a second part in a fucking year. I would love it if they were more respecting of my time and didn’t run on for three fucking hours too. I’d love more movies like Terminator 2 where there is zero fluff and the whole thing ends in 2 hours? That’s what the cinema is for!
