Man, I’m sorry for some people Everytime someone says that they’re enjoying Discovery you have some arrogant piece of shit who has to waltz in and say “YEAH BUT IT SUCKS AND THEY FUCKED UP THE SEASONS AND IT’S NOT ENJOYABLE”.
Just let other people like what they like, fuck. Is that so hard?
I’m so tired of this constant negativity from people who claim to be Trek fans while being utterly blind to the lessons therein.
Keep enjoying the show buddy. I’m glad you’re having a fun time and I’m sorry that so many douchebags can’t let other people have their own fun. Fuck 'em.
Which is why I just watch it on my own now. I’ve given up trying to share experiences or convince people to appreciate things I like.
I like things I like and I share them with others who are willing to share that experience with me … I’m not going to try to convince anyone.
When it comes to entertainment I won’t bother disagreeing much any more … but when it comes to real life experience, especially war and death, I’ll argue and fight.
But when it comes to Star Trek, I’m starting to realize that there is no shortage of friends out there like you who I can enjoy all this with.
My only complaint with you is that you are freaking making me so excited to see more … you’ve infected me! What have you done!!!
I stayed out of the Star Trek fandoms for years because of this. I’ve always liked Enterprise, and I like the new shows, some more than others, but I’ve enjoyed all of them at least to some extent. I don’t need some jackass telling me why I’m wrong for liking something. (Edit correction - I just couldn’t get into Prodigy. I’m sure it’s great, but it just didn’t work for me.)
I joined a Star Trek Wholesomeposting group on Facebook where belittling the shows or the people that like them is explicitly not allowed. It’s great.
A fine time to use one. Just one I don’t think I would have come up with myself.
Like a blind man at an orgy … I was going to have to feel my way through
You know which Star Trek show is the best one?
The one you like the most.
I binged like the last quarter of the 2nd season really stoned the first time around. 10/10 experience. Honestly it was awesome. Would do again.
The second half of season 2 is the only part of Disco that I actually enjoyed. Well, aside from anytime Tig was on screen.
My favorite part of discovery was learning who Tig was, and now it’s a whole can of worms like when I first fell in love with Sarah Silverman.
Dude, she’s amazing. I will watch or listen to anything she’s so much as attached to. Her podcast is insightful and funny. One Mississippi was hilarious and dark. Her episode of Birbiglia’s podcast is one of my favorite podcast episodes ever. She made Army of the Dead for me. Just an absolute sardonic delight.
Wait for the last season. It’s kind of awesome what they did with everything. Big and small come together in pretty great ways
Umm are we friends now?
You were my friend before you even asked
Every interaction with you so far has been very pleasant. Keep up the good fight. I look forward to our next one
Here’s what I don’t understand. They went through the Singularity to the future because that was the only place the Control AI wouldn’t be able to find them, right? Except Control was already destroyed before they went through the Singularity!
I’ve never even been able to start season 3 because I just can’t get past the stupidity of not reversing the engines away from the Singularity the moment Control was eliminated as a threat.
Except Control was already destroyed before they went through the Singularity!
They didn’t know that for sure, and the debriefings with Pike, Spock, and the gang at the end establish that they took some time afterward to confirm that Control had been completely eliminated.

Well, that’s where I think their plan falls apart a bit. My interpretation was always that they were going to try to stay in the wormhole, effectively removing themselves from the timestream - hence the episode title “Perpetual Infinity”. I don’t have access to episode transcripts right now, but Memory Alpha seems to support this:
Burnham speculates that perhaps instead of fighting against time, they flow with it, and try to merge the Sphere into the “river of time” itself – sending it so far into the future that it would not be able to harm them. Stamets’ examination of the Red Angel’s suit has revealed it has almost infinite data storage, which Pike takes to mean that they would input the Sphere archive into the suit, program a destination beyond Gabrielle’s anchor point, and let the micro-wormhole take it away forever. “Perpetual infinity”, Stamets confirms; Control will not be able to get the data, ever.
However, I think there are multiple ways to interpret the scene, and I think the last couple of episodes of the season are pretty sloppy in that regard.
That’s the paradox tho… if they go through, they fulfill the timeline of the future. If they don’t, they break the timeline and now there is a new chance for control to reappear and restart.
The other thing is … these are time paradoxes so whatever happens creates a new universe and we will never become aware of the alternate versions.
But you do have a great point … I was so excited watching the finale that I didn’t think of that.
There are plot holes everywhere that you could fly a star ship through … but I still enjoyed it.

Are you thinking Marvel-style timeline-forking? I could be wrong, but I believe it is established that time doesn’t work that way in Trek.
As others have said this isn’t the infinitely expanding manifold time of DC or MCU (pre Loki season 2).
SNW season two confirmed what we could infer from the premier of TNG when the date of WW3 had shifted back decades. It also happens to line up better with the understandings of modern physics.
The Prime Timeline in Star Trek is a resilient enormous river. It can be shifted a bit in its course, slip forwards and back.
BUT major events remain largely unchanged
- those changes that aren’t large enough to create a major fork shift to a very different future as in TOS City at the Edge of Forever
OR
- it takes an event of the order of the Romulan Supernova to create a new branch universe (Kelvin U).
You might want to see a doctor about that. But have fun!
If only
they didn’t fuck upseason 3so badly.wasn’t such a disappointment for me.For real. Everytime someone says “I like Discovery!” You’ve always got to have someone with this type of arrogance go “But it sucks though” and pretend like their opinion is fact.
Two comments I’ve seen from this person on two posts within an hour and both having the same negative energy. I’m just going to go ahead and hit the block button because it doesn’t look like they’re going to provide anything other than negative energy and i’m tired of it.
It’s partly why /r/StarTrek started it’s “be nice” rule in ~2018. It’s ok to disagree, but to just pee all over something someone liked for no reason other than the fact that they brought up that they liked it is exhausting.
I don’t know, I kinda like the discussions. It’s rarely really toxic, just people having strong opinions. And a lot of it is legit. I kinda like Enterprise, but there’s also a whole bunch of things that are wrong with it. A lot of these discussions end up explaining things about the lore or end up being memes.
I didn’t really want to be toxic and I didn’t think expressing my disappointment about the show would be viewed that way. Thanks for not simply blocking me.
It was two comments about the same show. I’m sorry I don’t like your favorite tree (looking at your username) but I don’t think that makes me toxic. I actually went back and checked my comments on this community and they basically all light heartedly banter or admiration for the respective memes.
I’m not defending negative nellies - but its is possible to enjoy something and still criticise it. You’ve attacked me in the past for having a minor criticism. I’m not going to block you over it, I just think twice about whether I want the hassle, but maybe that’s just me
Take it easy guys … I’ve watched Star Trek for so many years now … I really don’t care what they get right or wrong any more … I just love the series for what it is, it’s been so much part of my life now that it’s like looking at a family member who is decent, has their flaws but I still love none the less.
No, I think I really could have worded that more diplomatically. This topic is important for people and I should try to word my criticism in a constructive manner
