I would love one please if you still have some!

Good to hear he’s still at it. Wouldn’t have blamed him if he took a break from everything after the last few months.
Still not had an invite to check out Tildes so not seen it, but wish him well.
I think there’s a time and a place for algorithmic feeds. When it comes to Facebook i personally think it makes sense to have a way of filtering the important things first, based on who you interact with. It’s a social network in the definitive sense; we care about some people more than others depending on where in the network they are. However we’ve seen how things go when Facebook use it with pages/news stories (which is really concerning).
For things like Twitter, I want chronological. It’s a real time platform based on sharing information across a larger audience. Its use in breaking news makes timing important. It’s largely gone to shit now because Musk, but in its heyday anyway.
Ideally there should always be a choice, or at least some transparency around how the algorithms work. That way everyone can choose what works for them based on how they use the platform.
We have the phrase ‘every Tom, Dick and Harry’ which is like that (UK)
If we’re talking about a generic person it’s usually Mr/s Smith or Mr/s Jones (near Wales)
Wandering through a field at Glastonbury festival once at 3 in the morning and crossed paths with a portaloo moving of its own accord and dancing. It had fairy lights on it and was playing Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire.
You often see odd things at Glastonbury but nobody else I was with saw it. Nobody else I spoke to afterwards who went saw it either. I was relatively sober as well.
It was brilliantly surreal.
How odd, being haunted by dairy!
At work (social housing) there was a phase where one of our tenants kept getting cheese slices through the door. Went on for months, they would phone up and get angry as if we were the ones attacking her with processed cheese. Then all of a sudden it just stopped. Happened to another tenant on the other side of town a year or so later.
I just feel like I’m standing still and not in control of things at the moment. My siblings are taking steps forward in their own ways (having kids, moving abroad) and I’m stuck in a job I’ve had before that I moved back to because of a restructure, so I didn’t choose it. It’s not fulfilling but I’m good at it, but when it’s the only thing I have going on it feels like I should be getting more out of it than I am. Also just feeling isolated as I don’t connect with people in my team and I don’t have a huge social life.
I want to get my own home so can’t really take any huge risks jobwise at the moment. Just feeling stuck.
While people have made some interesting comments on the downsides of megathreads, I’m glad we have a way of containing the Musk stuff. It gets a bit much.
To people who do have concerns though, if you’re tech minded maybe look at contributing to a way of improving the functionality of Lemmy. It’s in our gift to improve this place so if we can do something about it then we should, rather than passively complain when things aren’t how we want them to be.
You know you’re commenting on it now though right?
Another vote for using your library. I mostly use BorrowBox as that’s what my library hosts their eBooks on. I have used Libby in the past though.
Bookbub is a site that has low cost ebooks that might be worth checking out.
That must be so cool to wear shoes that you’ve literally made
I love Dr Martens, or Corsair who are actually better quality but the same style. A pair can last me a good few years and they’re incredibly comfortable.
I don’t know why Musk just didn’t do it this way instead, rather than wrecking a globally recognised brand.
So floofy!
Two Point Hospital on the PS5. Finding some of the levels harder on console than on PC for some reason, maybe I am expanding too quickly
Great tip, first thing I found was this which is definitely right up my street
This will have an impact on journalists who use Twitter to get tips for reporting. Seen some who were concerned this would happen
I’m a data analyst that’s started to do more data science stuff (learning SQL/python) but not sure I would quite class myself as technical yet.
That sounds great. I think there should definitely be more educational games for grown ups along this line
Yeah we do :)
