Is this a recent change to deter people from complaining?
Most definetly. Could also be a technical necessity if they got spammed hard (as they should).

As far as I can see, the real number is already on top of the post. And then you have the split of up/downvotes near the arrows. So the “algorithm” is just basic addidion and subtraction. Someone correct me if I saw something wrong…
Yeah. I meant pointless in the sense of “we as the reddit community want to change the companies business strategy shortly before an IPO”.
You being brought here (same as me) through the backlash-posts is great. But unless certain highly frequented subs go dark PERMANENTLY I dont see much that could sway the reddit leadership towards a more community friendly approach.
They took my RiF. The CEO seems like an absolute bastard. It got more and more toxic over the years. I can take some abuse but this was a bit too much. If it continues to be popular I’ll use it for information gathering just like always, but they wont get any content, interaction or ad revenue from me.
This blackout thing, while surely sending a message, will be pointless in the end imo. The bosses have decided how they want to proceed and that’s that.
on it my good sir!
Same boat. It’s kind of amazing, you can literally watch the userbase grow with popular entries getting more and more general upvotes.
Yes it is! Exciting to discover it.
I was never really interested in twitter or similar services, so I pass on Mastodon.
short answer: yes
Honestly I didnt expect much else. The AMA announcement alone was downvoted to hell.
Why he even did it, knowing already that he wont change his mind, is a question for smarter minds than me. There was nothing to gain as far as I can see.
Doubling down on defaming the apollo creator was just the cherry on top.
What a piece of human garbage. I really wish them (reddit) to fail hard at this point.
Yeah its all a bit confusing.
Say, you find an entry in https://beehaw.org/c/creative that you like and you’d like to subscribe to the whole community.
IF someone in your home instance (lemmy.ml) has already added …creative, you can just search for it in “communities” and you can then open and subscribe on the righthand side.
IF however you are the first in your home instance to access it, then you have to add it manually.
I do the following (someone more experience may enlighten us if there’s a better way):
Use https://browse.feddit.de/ to find the community or just copy the link of the main community (in this case https://beehaw.org/c/creative)
Be logged in in your homeinstance, click on the magnifying glass top right to search and then paste the link and search. The community will show up as a link and you can go there and subscribe.
Edited for some clarity.
Heck, I might even quit the lurkin’ life if the trend stays that positive hehe.
It all reminds me a bit of the good old times of early reddit. People who are ready for conversation, relatively few trolling (and worse) and just a community or rather communities in the truest sense of the word.
But also I dont know how it is from a mods perspective.
I am enjoying it so far. I usually tend to lurk but the community is, as many have said, very welcoming and it creates an atmosphere where it encourages you to contribute (not just with up/downvotes but also comments).
Dont know why you are downvoted. The issue with porn is basically moderation.
You can make a porn sub right now if beehaw.org allows it. (if it doesnt, there are others that allow it)
But it will get flooded with bot spam, loli shit and other illegal and NSFL stuff. That you should remove almost immediately or otherwise it becomes a legal concern for all involved.
You could also set up a whole new instance as well (as far as I understood the whole federation thing) but that would add additional costs for server resources, especially if people shall be able to upload pictures & videos themselves for example.
But if you can do it, more power to you! I might even stop by 😏
already exists, but only 3 subs and no content. you can search for it here: https://browse.feddit.de/
I’ve got my politics, I’ve got my world news, techstuff, gaming & memes. I’d like to see picture subs like earthporn more populated. They’re currently pretty empty. Also missing content in my regional Austria sub but that will solve itself if the reddit exodus continues.

It’s a learning process. There is definetly a mild learning curve as to how things work here compared to traditional social media platforms. But maybe that’s even a good thing as to pre-filter certain audiences.
So far the interaction possibilities seem very satisfying, community seems friendlier than current reddit (maybe that’s just the size of the userbase) and there is already enough, I’d call it “base content” as to be a reasonable alternative to reddit. - Which is why I created an account here.
I especially like the threaded, color coded conversation view. Makes it really discernable who responded to whom. I also like the UI very much. Clear and easy to navigate. Only critique here: There is kind of a lot of wasted screenspace on both sides on a 4k resolution.
I think shortcuts for common mouseclicks and formatting like in RES (Reddit Enhancement Suite) would go a long way here too.
Well thats my 2c.
Hell will freeze over before they change course. “It’s all in the game.” to quote one of my favourite series ever.
