@Damage @startrek I would think one would avoid sending one’s most powerful ship to explore — it’s rather threatening diplomatically, and it also means one’s defence of home space is weakened. It makes more sense to me to send smaller, more nimble, less threatening (and less valuable) ships into the unknown.

@Prouvaire @startrek Given that replicators seem to be able to produce literally anything (*except* latinum), it really seems like the Federation is an actual post-scarcity culture, where money would have little to no utility.
@andthenthreemore @startrek Good one — I’d also recommend the Hornblower series (although they are nowhere as good as the books IMO). Supposedly Roddenberry once described Star Trek as “Hornblower in space”.
(But really, read the books — the character in the novels is fascinatingly complex, an introvert full of self-doubt who is also incredibly talented.)
@akhenaten0 @startrek I’m old enough to be a TOS fan *prior* to the movies, much less TNG, so a time when there are *multiple* Trek shows on at the same time is mind-blowing. I really don’t think it likely that there’d be no Trek anywhere, at least for long.
