just another Redditrefugee who has been thinking too much about the internet lately.
I only just discovered last year’s KMFDM release Hyena and have been pretty obsessed with it.
My “home” genres are more in the stoner rock/heavy/doom/metal but been on a industrial kick this summer
Fellow lazy person here. My various circles are pretty much all on discord since pandemic started. We’ve hopped platforms many times before, and given the uptick of enshittification on other platforms lately we’re sure we’ll do it again. Maybe even soon. But not yet!
I prefer using a firefox PWA but I have the scrolling bug no matter what browser I use - the page keeps jumping to top when I’m trying to read.
So I’ve started using liftoff this morning and so I agree with others in this thread, it looks the best to me. It’s not as smooth but I find it each much easier to tell which post comes from which instance than with connect. The community icons and titles are larger and the cards seem more separated.
I hear that digital storefronts are catering to search engines more than people. I can imagine people wanting to ootimize their answers the same way for all kinds of reasons. Unless google is very careful (lol) bots will end up spewing malicious answers across the first page of google search.
I second pop. Nvidia drivers work out of the box. Flatpaks are treated like first class citizens. I hopped around a lot way back (Ubuntu, all its official flavours, mint, debian, elementary, even crunchbang) but landed on pop and haven’t moved yet.
If you like 70s sounding stuff I highly recommend you check out Lucifer. In fact maybe I’ll post of theirs next
Sorta? I like them on Warp Riders
Remember when Discovery was an oasis of informative content in a desert of reality TV? I wonder how long before curiosity stream goes the same way
Fascinating stuff. I think we’ll see a new category emerge in studies like this for Steam Deck, ROG Ally, a Sony’s (ridiculous) project Q. I think these devices have more to do with each other than they do with PC or console - at least when it comes to player behaviour and use case
Traveler are great! Unsurprisingly Starbreaker is in rotation for me. Maybe I should post it next
You’re dead right. If $$$ are Spez’s priority then that’s what we should target. A knock on effect is that it catches the attention of the casual redditor. I have a couple friends who read reddit but were clueless on these issues. Until the NSFW content. One DM’d me tonight
"“I was on lunch, and I was like “WTF happened to my reddit feed??””
so that’s working
You know, of all the ways AI could threaten us, I never imagined it would be chat programs madly spewing falsehoods.
Seems obvious now but like everyone who grew up watching movies like Terminator I figured the threat would be killer drones or meddling with financial markets, or even replacing too many jobs.
It did! I loved that DE. it was shortly before then than first installed Ubuntu and Unity just felt fresh and futuristic.
But I think it’s as you say - desktop is not the priority for Canonical. I’d add that because of their relative size they try and force their way onto the scene even if the consensus is the other way - see wayland and snaps.
still i after i made the rounds i settled on Pop Os and don’t see myself switching any time soon
Lol cancerous is right. Thanks, that’s the link i’ll be sharing elsewhere
When I first tried the tiling in Pop Os it broke certain apps for me and i ended up disabling it. I still turn on the tiling when i have a lot of things open, but it’s a specific use case for me.
Still it’s great to see any distro really try to innovate the UI. I am optimistic for how a full cosmic DE might turn out.
Then again I was one of the Unity DE supporters back in the days so my judgement may not be sound lol
I love this album so much. Heard about them when Ruby the Hatchet mentioned them during their release live stream. Now I think I might like Sonja even more.
Yeah it’s been said he has contempt for the users but i think it’s more just utter disconnection. He thinks he owns a website, instead he’s got the infrasctructure for a community - one that’s angry and can go elsewhere.
But will enough us jump ship? i hope so but am not that optimistic
well, only if we let it. which we prolly will.
I do like how the Verge is treating this like a real news story and not just “some weird thing on the internet”
I do this exactly. I have a Pop Os installation on its own drive and the original win 10 drive, plus they each have their own secondary storage drives. I switch using the BIOS but honestly I find myself doing that less and less.
I used to have a larger NTFS storage drive both systems could see but it kept getting marked as read-only so I gave up and just got a fourth one for Pop Os.
Sometimes when I boot up Pop Os after having been in Windows it can’t see any USB devices until after login or until I plug and unplug them.
So there’s some minor annoyances to this setup but at least windows doesn’t overwrite the bootloader every couple updates.
I’m very much considering never getting windows 11 (or 12 lol). The only games I have issues with are some AAA multiplayer games - like Borderlands - and even then they run they just don’t play nice with other players.
