The best part of this is that the AI could not come up with original content. All it can do is repeat what humans already output. I would say games journalism is safe from an AI takeover. Now we just need to get rid of the bot spam.

Yeah, AI is killing tons of jobs, but there is no reason to let it without a fight.

It’s up to you to give your life meaning. Just because things suck, doesn’t mean it’s time to throw in the towel. Imagine the Bronze Age humans, who were getting killed over idols and and some random warlord’s whims. They persisted in the face of adversity so we exist today. Imagine the lives of the enslaved, raped, and oppressed native Americans and Africans in the face of Spanish rule in South America. They persisted with no clear future freedom in sight.

I could go on about humans facing horrible situations but my point is this: throughout history we have always faced a dark situation as a result of other human actions but we always found a reason to persist… or even fight back.

I am looking forward to the massive population plunge… as is the rest of the earth. Hopefully, with less humans we can have better social programs and more earth friendly usage of resources.

Let’s not forget, this is in the slowly vanishing desktop market. Linux is already in every Android phone and powers most of the web too. We are all dependent on Linux every day even if it’s not on the desktop.

I prefer handhelds by far. I have a family and it is easier to get everyone in the same room with handhelds than it is with the TV being monopolized.

Yeah, I switched away from T-Mobile after I saw that my nearly $600 a month phone bill was less than $200 with AT&T.

I think the problem isn’t the quality of movies. After all, we have had some really good ones with some that did well (including 2 Marvel ones) like Guardians 3, the Spider-verse movie, Super Mario, Avatar, Dungeons & Dragons, etc…

The problem is that nobody wants to go to the movies anymore. It’s as simple as that. The theater has lost its audience now that streaming is mainstream. Why pay for a $8 coke and $10 popcorn when I have my whole home kitchen available?

Also, even streaming is seeing its audience’s time grabbed away by other things. In my house, making time away from video games, YouTube, and online socializing to watch a 2 hour movie isn’t always easy. Folks have to put away their hobbies and normal entertainment for a passive experience. It’s not always an easy sell.

So no, I don’t think something is wrong with the movies that are coming out. I don’t think an increase in quality will help. I think they should aim for streaming more and away from theaters.

The speed is not impressive, but the fact that did it at all is interesting.

I agree that climate change should be our main concern. The real existential risk of AI is that it will cause millions of people to not have work or be underemployed, greatly multiplying the already huge lower class. With that many people unable to take care of themselves and their family, it will make conditions ripe for all of the bad parts of humanity to take over unless we have a major shift away from the current model of capitalism. AI would be the initial spark that starts this but it will be human behavior that dooms (or elevates) humans as a result.

The AI apocalypse won’t look like Terminator, it will look like the collapse of an empire and it will happen everywhere that there isn’t sufficient social and political change all at once.

The article was skeptical about this. It said that the problem with expecting it to revolutionize policy decisions isn’t that we don’t know what to do, it’s that we don’t want to do it. For example, we already know how to solve climate change and the smartest people on the planet in those fields have already told us what needed to be done.
