I mean, we’re talking curl here, I don’t think a lot of suffering of consequences is happening. And man pages are often also not a great resource, throw everything at you, often don’t contain examples. If I’m building an app that integrates curl or libcurl, oh yes I’m reading the doc. If I just need curl to do something quickly, the LLM output is perfectly fine.

I commend the author for watching and subsequently summarizing this into a blog article, but in the age of LLMs like ChatGPT I cannot be arsed anymore to memorize any of the arcane command line arguments of curl, ffmpeg and the like.

Same here, we’ve made it to 3 now without any screens and our house looks like a children’s book library, our daughter is bilingual and ahead of her age cohort. Of course that’s again a correlation/causation thing, but being able to connect with her over reading books, answering questions (so.many. questions…) has been wonderful. She’ll be hit with digital everything soon enough, so why rush it indeed. At the moment she’s doing video calls with the grandparents and very occasionally looking at photos or animals on the phone, and that’s it.

Also we’re talking about toddlers, not 10 year olds. Toddlers still develop really foundational capabilities in cognition, vision and motor function which 2D flat screen games might have a very different effects than on 11 year old Tommy playing Roblox.

AI won’t replace doctors, but doctors that use AI might replace doctors that don’t, and I’m ok with that. Keep the human in the loop, by all means, but make use of powerful tooling that might make things better.

I use it because of inertia. I jumped from Firefox to Chrome back when Chrome was new and came with hot features, like tab isolation, or being ultra fast. Google has gone through enshitification though, and FF has gotten much better since those days. I’ve started the migration back to Firefox now though.
