Long term, yes, great for the planet. But shorter term, a shrinking pool of working aged adults are going to have to care for a growing pool of elderly. Additionally, the overall economy is going to contact before the age cohort imbalance takes care of itself. Same thing is happening across most of the developed world, but it’s happening faster in China, and they’re less developed to start with.

Is this the right place? I feel like most of us in the fediverse are past “fixing” Reddit and are now just gleefully watching it burn.

I think the only people supposing the CCP these days are actual Chinese people. A distaste for China seems to be the sole unifying topic in the west.

I struggle with that one, too. Like, the alternatives are better? I think there are a large amount of people who have not found financial stability, and they feel like all they can do is “fight the system”.

So, are you saying that “reaching across the aisle” and hearing alternative views are bad things? I get avoiding hate speech and excessive negativity but is think a happy medium would be more healthy.

That’s a little harsh. And overly broad. It’s hard, essential, and generally unappreciated work. They are community volunteers and hold communities together. Some are less pleasant that others, but we need mods, a I’m glad some are willing to step up and do the work the rest of us won’t.

The sad truth is, now that many of us who would otherwise protest have migrated, those who are left are less likely to protest.

I took the perfect path. I didn’t buy it until around v1.4, at which point it was half-priced and playable. AFAIK, the story was always good.

I’ve spoken to people IRL who say that the protests are pointless, even if I show them a new community growing because of them. There is probably some shenanigans involved in the volume of anti-protest activity, but there are plenty Redditors with Stockholm Syndrome to give them credibility

I have a feeling that this is going to be a healthy migration, for me. Like, maybe the sort of person drawn to an open-source federated modding community is the kind of person that endorses a mod they keep using, and appreciates the work of the author.
