I agree. Place is an awesome idea and its inventor doesn’t even work for reddit anymore. The idea extends beyond Reddit, so why not have a big canvas for lemmy?

Forgejo was founded after gitea had some issues regarding its ownership and management.
the guy selfhosting lemmy.world, is also the guy that made this community. nothing hypocritical about that.
It’s considered a very lgbtq+ friendly community, and it announced closing entirely in the wake of the Reddit blackout, so a lot of its members have come here to Lemmy.
If you want a piece of software that keeps closer to microsoft’s shitty file types I’d take a look at onlyoffice
