Feels like they’ve already been doing this. The last anime I watched had what felt like a 5 minute intro sequence and 5 minutes of credits for each 30 min episode (and sometimes a 5 min recap).
Setting up a matrix server was a god damn nightmare for me. I eventually got it working but I hit pretty much every conceivable obstacle along the way. Getting the config file just right, the networking, the federation, the coturn server, getting end users to understand they need to backup their keys…
I’m sure it’d be easier for a Linux pro but I was in way over my head. Only got it working through stubbornness and help from the community.
If we only taught things that were “useful” then we’d be discarding half the curriculum. Stuff like history, art, and how a fucking analog clock works, is worth teaching, even if it’s not something everyone uses every day.
I keep squeezing my eyes shut and trying to will myself into the timeline where Bernie won.
Ranked voting should really be at the top of our priority list. Would allow more than 2 parties to be viable and give progressives a real chance to distinguish themselves from the neolibs.

I’m not convinced they’re at all the same. Consciousness may go dormant during sleep, and you may not remember it, but it’s still a continuous, uninterrupted, stream of electricity.
This kind of teleportation would completely snuff out that fire and replace it with an identical one at another location. It’s not the same as sleep.
No difference for the rest of the universe, but the difference between life and death to my current stream of consciousness.
Imagine if the teleporter malfunctioned and created the duplicate on the other end but failed to disentigeate you. A worker notices you’re still in the machine and says, “oops sorry, had a malfunction on this end. Give us a minute to fix the issue and we’ll destroy you. No worries though, ‘you’ made it out the other end.”
Wouldn’t you do everything in your power to get out of that machine before they could fix it and kill you?
The fact that a clone would be seamlessly picking up my stream of consciousness after I die would be little consolation to me.
Sleep may be similar from a philosophical or external point of view. But I’m not sold that lack consciousness during sleep is in the same league as completely destroying, and then, rebuilding it.

Consciousness IS continuity. If you are disentigrated and a perfect clone pops up somewhere to replace you… you died. Your current stream of consciousness ended and a perfect copy replaced you.
As far as all external observers are concerned it’s still you. But from your own perspective? Well you won’t have one anymore, you’ll be dead.
I simply don’t understand how so many communities, especially the tech ones, are on Discord instead of Matrix.
Is Matrix that new? Or hard to use? Because I found it just as convenient as Discord without the laundry list of downsides.

As far as I know Matrix is the best FOSS alternative to Discord right now. Maybe try using the coturn addon for voice instead of Jitsi. I’ve been able to share audio snippets just fine this way.
No shit it’s not private. This is the digital equivalent of shouting on a soapbox in public and then getting pissed if someone records or remembers it.
I tried to find a server that isn’t blocking anyone, and hasn’t been defederated by any of the big servers.
I want to avoid an echo-chamber and have access to everything on the fediverse, including stuff I find distateful. If anything really bothers me I will block the community/instance myself, I don’t want others making that choice for me.
Unfortunately there seems to be a lot of folks out there just searching for an excuse to clutch their pearls, rile up a mob, and defederate anything and everything that offends them.
I don’t want to circlejerk in a safe space echo chamber, I want to see both the yin and the yang of humanity. I want that wild west feeling of the internet of old
I’m using Matrix with Coturn integration for voice. Works great. There’s an addon for video too but I don’t use that so never added it.
The San Diego zoo is the best zoo I’ve ever been to. The animals there seem very well taken care of.
