  • I usually buy pea protein from MyProtein online. I personally find whey proteins to be way too sweet. The only issue is that it’s thicker, so I need to use a blender, rather than one of those shaker cups.

Find a basic flavor like vanilla, and add fruit (usually banana for me.) You can add a non dairy milk of your choice, if you don’t want to use water. Soy milk works well, and has bonus protein.

  • I think that a lot of those people likely live in a very car dependent, suburban area, and therefore don’t get any regular interaction with people outside of their immediate family.

I live in a city, so I have regular infractions with people that I know when I’m out and about: I pop into the butcher shop, coffee shop or green grocer and talk to the employees I know. I walk the dog, and run into friends and acquaintances that live the next neighborhood over, etc. People in rural areas usually have similar sorts of relationships with people in the area.

Contrast that with the suburbs, where neighbors may know each other to say hello to, but not much past that, and it’s hard to build any kind of relationship with the barista at the drive-through Starbucks or any employees at the local Kroger superstore.

  • Just use your hand. If the beer is in a bottle, leave it so the neck is sticking out of the ice water and spin it that way (this also works very well for wine.) If it’s a can, stick it in vertically, and spin it for 30 seconds at a time or whatever you can stand.

Even if you aren’t constantly spinning it, it will still get cold much faster than any other method. I’ve worked in bars and restaurants for 15 years, and this is my go to, in case of emergency method for chilling beverages.

  • The social media algorithms were definitely much different in 2014. They tended to promote links to outside articles and trending topics, even if those links were to BuzzFeed listicles. In 2015/16 they had all changed to trying to keep people engaged on the original site, so they started pushing rage bait that would get people arguing in the comments.

In 2014, everybody was talking about what color that dress was. In 2015, Breitbart was like the number 3 most popular shared “news” site on Facebook.

  • The Internet immediately worked, which is one big difference. The dot com financial bubble has nothing to do with the functionality of the internet.

In this case, there is both a financial bubble, and a “product” that doesn’t really work, and which they can’t make any better (as he admits in this article.)

It was obvious from day 1 how useful the Internet would be. Email alone was revolutionary. We are still trying to figure out what the real uses for LLM are. There appear to be some valid use cases outside of creating spam and plagiarizing other people’s work, but it doesn’t appear to be any kind of revolutionary technology.

  • I’m saying that you can’t use scotch guard or anything like that.

It’s been a while, but I don’t believe that they were allowed to use cardboard or anything of the sort to prop up or modify the appearance of the product. Instead, they would cook say 100 burger patties, go through dozens of heads of lettuce, slice 100 tomatoes, etc, and pick out the perfect pieces to make a burger that looks the way that they want.

The most that they could adulterate the food was to make a slurry with corn starch, water, and food dye that could be applied with a paint brush to make things look juicy, etc. They would use a clothes steamer to make a pizza look just right. Lots of tricks, but it had to be something that you could just pick up and eat, even if you wouldn’t necessarily want to.

Yes, and add a little bit of cold war style paranoia in there as well. These companies know that their product doesn’t work very well, but they think their competitor is maybe right on the verge of a breakthrough, so they rush to deploy and capture market share, lest they get left completely behind.

  • I’m not sure what this is supposed to mean. How do you train a dog to be a therapy dog for another animal?

These dogs are companion animals for the cheetahs. They grow up together, and share a strong bond because they think of themselves as litter mates. They end up well trained, sure, because they live around staff at zoos who are professional animal handlers, but the relationship between the animals is pretty much the same as two puppies or two cheetahs that were raised together; if you adopted two puppies from different litters the same week, and raised them together, would you think of one of them as a therapy dog for the other?
