There’s a lot of labor resources and energy that goes into growing cotton. You could likely replace many hundreds of acres of cotton fields with a modest factory on 20 acres of land.
Yeah but looking at what he showed it’s not like a hoarder situation, it’s a significant amount of stuff but it’s not like there’s literally a pile of tires and garbage back there, he’s just got some car accessories and a few sets of tires for his cars by his house and stuff like that. It’s a lot of stuff for the average person but nothing noteworthy generally pretty tame for a guy that’s into old cars. Maybe he cleaned it up some for the news, but if they aren’t showing their pictures it’s his word against theirs and I’m more inclined to give this guy the benefit of the doubt.
I played Where’s Waldo: Oakley Subdivision Edition seems pretty representative based on that. Also residents of Oakley seem to really like having cars and boats and shit in their side yards. if this guy is uninsurable then half the city is.
Street Legal Racing Redline, but good.
You get to actually modify cars “by hand” swapping out or repairing individual components and the chassis can get bent up by big wrecks, you can buy new or used cars and tear them down and build them up and just cruise the world do street or track racing, demo derby etc. It’s all extremely rough but conceptually it’s the best thing ever, you really get to “own” a car and experience the highs and lows associated with that.
The closest game with any amount of polish I’ve played is Test Drive: Eve of Destruction you buy cars at the junkyard and take them to demo derbies, they need to be repaired upgraded etc and they have permanent damage from big hits.
Obviously there is My Summer Car and Mon Bazou both great games but they lack a racing centric gameplay loop and MSC in particular is too hardcore to be a mainstream game.
Same, that’s pretty much my break point for something like this. I use youtube a lot so I don’t mind paying a small amount to remove ads and still have creators get a cut, though I understand why others hate the system.
Somewhere in between, I like having something to work towards but I also enjoy making my own fun along the way.
It also depends on my mood, sometimes I want to min max something, sometimes I just want to cruise around in GTA and check places out.

on a modern PC doing that is almost entirely trivial if implemented correctly, I hate DRM but to be honest they may be right that it has no appreciable effect on the final performance of the product for the vast majority of users. Of course that’s dependent on proper implementation, what are the odds these folks at Denuvo can do that? pretty low.

I thought it was a given that Russia also can’t win but I suppose you can look at it this way, Russia could end the war right now if they wanted. It’s a whole can of worms but I think it’s vital for global security and stability that Russia does not take over Ukraine. Long term a win for Russia will cause more pain and suffering for everyone including Russian civilians.
Also I’d like to add it’s a massive shit sandwich for Biden to eat, it’s gone over about as well as you’d expect with his party. I doubt there was anything approaching a viable alternative.
Also I will note that while these are still bad in no uncertain terms, the dud rate is under 2.5% versus the old school cluster munitions which had dud rates exceeding 40% (like the kind Russia is using now) if dropping ten of these prevents the Russians from dropping one of theirs you are coming out ahead in terms of UXO, not to mention any shortening of the conflict reducing the number of mines deployed by the Russian military who are a particular fan of the extremely problematic PFM-1 butterfly mines which are basically a way of dropping highly volatile UXO all over an area.
War is hell.
I don’t like that, it has a huge impact on who can and can’t be here. Obviously most working adults can afford a few bucks here and there, but if you are trying to be inclusive removing any kind of monetary barrier is really important. Those on fixed income, minors, and from countries with extremely low wages would have to think twice about chipping in or may not have the means to actually do so even if they had the cash in hand.
I think it’s very important that Beehaw remains free to use. Though I wouldn’t mind if they nagged users a little for donations when needed.
Edit: to be clearer I’m for paying the people who run Beehaw if/when feasible but a mandatory fee is anathema to the purpose of this instance.
That at least makes sense, like I can wrap my brain around the idea that the control from behind the camera about the axis of the lens means it would be inverse and would thus feel ‘correct’ to a certain number of players.
I got good at mirroring controls on the fly from Mario kart on the DS, that weapon basically had no effect on me.
Though if you put upshift over downshift I will lose mind. Upshift is always X and downshift is always A for me on the Xbox layout (cross/triangle) also screws me up when real cars do this, upshift should be towards the rear and downshift should be forwards. That’s how most sequential gear shifters are configured in race cars. Ostensibly because you are downshifting under deceleration and upshifting during acceleration.
Yup makes sense to me, very much in line with my laymans understanding of contract law. It’s very driven by social context as it is. I wonder how that differs somewhere like Japan where official seals are expected even for minor documents.

Yeah it’s one of those things, you know if you need it. Most people don’t need it. An android phone has been an extremely flexible part of my tech toolkit since 2011 and I haven’t looked back. If I want to do something involving another phone or computer I can find some way to do it. iOS has certainly become much much more flexible than it was early on, but I don’t think I can fix an old CNC controller with an RS232 adapter with one.
There’s literally one reason I stick with android, you can just put files on it and use them, I know iOS has improved greatly here, now you can actually have some approximation of file system access, but I really don’t want to use a janky app like iTunes (at least on windows it’s kind of broken still) to get anything on and off the phone outside of iCloud. I end up using my phone more like a pocket linux computer enough of the time that I just can’t jive with such a locked down device.
I really like the hardware, and iOS is a very cohesive and easy to use experience it just doesn’t fill my use cases for a phone. I’m not the kind of person who just uses something, I always want to crack it open and tinker with it, I think my record for not modifying a car after purchase is 2 weeks (only because I wanted to make sure it wasn’t a lemon). Android just fits my ethos better.
I’m probably going to do the same. I should just be confident in what I’m saying, at least to a reasonable degree, and not worry if others feel like they agree. (I’m pretty sure I’m mostly cool) but it is also nice to have a way of posting a simple positive reaction to a post without clogging up the thread with. “nice” “I agree” “cool beans” etc.
