  • Again, doesn’t matter if others have had the problem, because there is a way to fix it and plenty of distros ship with it fixed out of the box. Just because you picked a distro that has the problem, and you are too dumb to fix it doesn’t mean linux is broken. Having a choice in distros and packages is a fundamental principle of linux and that sets it apart from Windows where users have no choices.

Ubuntu, Fedora, and Manjaro have it broken out of the box. Please, tell me which Distro has it fixed out of the box? I would love to try and prove you wrong.

Also you’re literally proving my point. Linux doesn’t “just work” when you need to figure out how to fix it.

How about in Windows when I plug my gopro into it and double click on a video file that it takes 10 seconds before it will start playing? In linux it starts playing instantly. Have you ever tried to run docker services in Windows? It’s an absolute shitshow, but in linux it works flawlessly. See? I can give plenty examples of things working like shit in Windows that work perfectly in Linux. You actually are just an idiot, with no experience, and no idea how computer systems work.

GoPro files run instantly on my PC. Try not having such a potato PC? Not to mention it sounds like in both situations Windows DOES work, in my example, Steam does NOT reach full speed.

What about setting custom keyboard shortcuts? Can’t do it in Windows to the extent of Linux. What about fully customizing your desktop environment? Can’t do it in Windows.

Sounds like you need to learn what words mean. Keyboard shortcuts aren’t preventing Windows from working. Customization isn’t the same as “just working”. Windows does just work. I am not arguing with some asshole on Lemmy about Steam speeds on Windows. It just works.

So just keep trying to cope with the fact that you’re an idiot and you need to used a dumbed down OS that sends off telemetry data and forces ads on you. It’s okay. You’re a dumb dumb and are willing to put up with the shitshow of Windows. It’s okay if you cope by shitting on the superior OS, but it just makes you look like an idiot at the end of the day.

I would use Linux, but it doesn’t work, and the ‘easy fix’ doesn’t exist. Linux is the shit show. Has toxic people like you crying and coping and defending it. Sorry it sucks so bad it doesn’t even get networking, the most basic functionality in 2023, right.

I just hate the fact if 10mm is too big, I can get 9mm, but if 15/16 is too big, fuck me, I guess. Bringing the full toolbox over because what random fucking bullshit number comes before it?

Like I’m here to fix shit, not do math to figure out which socket is one size smaller.

  • Or Windows just works on so much different hardware. You can build a PC with the weirdest mix and match of hardware, and Windows will just… work. Also I bought a Microsoft sidewinder wheel from 1998 from a thrift store for $8, plugged it into my Windows 10 PC, and it just worked. Nothing special was needed. 1998 hardware literally plug and play on Windows 10 (and I’ve tested it on 11, and it works the same).

You can install MacOS on non-Apple hardware, but you need to buy very specific hardware, and download very specific hacks, to make it work.

Even Linux only works on specific hardware. This entire thread has people talking about how broken Linux is on their setups. The suggestions are to buy specific hardware and run very specific versions of Linux.

  • Ubuntu is the best bet for a distro to just work well out of the box.

Granted I have still had a fuck ton of issues, errors, etc, but Ubuntu is the only distro that has worked the best out of the box. Fedora was a broken mess, and Mint was in between.

So if you want anyone to not give up on Linux, direct them towards Ubuntu first. You can always switch distros later, but spending 3 days trying to fix issues on a different distro isn’t fun.

Do you have any idea how excited I was for the GTA trilogy remake? I’ve been waiting for so long. Only to be slapped in the face.

The worst part is that I know rockstar will never attempt to remake them again. I’ll never get that San Andreas remaster.

Bro, it’s so fucking frustrating that I need to be subbed to 5 different Android communities just to get my news.

I can’t sub to just one because I miss news if I do.

My only hope is that Boost brings multi-reddit support to Lemmy, so I can just click on “Android” and get the news from all 5 Android communities.
