An alternative to do what exactly? To just follow people? What about you follow no one?

Good.
All this business, for the ultimate goal of launching more military satellites, is killing people by millions. Through pollution. One person out of 6 dies from pollution. And pollution is massively generated by clowns like Bezos. Does he have blood on his hands? Absolutely.
Our activity should not be to help Boeing and Lockheed Martin to launch more equipment in the air. It should be to teach new jobs to the people with a current activity that emits pollution and CO2.
This circus is a prime example of what not to do, and how laws are unable to accommodate the people.
Meta won’t federate anyone. They don’t want to host illegal content on their servers, that would be an absolute PR disaster for them. And this is what will happen if they federate with a random instance. Even clean instances will want to play tricks on Meta if federated.
They are the prototype of the mono instance federation. They want control. They want to attract the people leaving Twitter. I don’t think they care about us, what they want to avoid is that our instances become too big and start to offer an alternative.
I tried lemmy, I’ve been lectured about “orientalism”, Zelensky was constantly trashed talked about. Enough is enough…I left lemmy for kbin.
It’s not about the technology, it’s about the community. I prefer to restart from scratch on kbin.
Well, define “dead”, because in your terms beehaw/lemmy is dead and still everyone wants to be a part of it.
People need to fight this fear of missing out. There are people here who suggest that we should run bots to mirror reddit. That would be a disaster.
End of the day a lot of Reddit’s value came from its popularity.
Value to who? Not to me. I saw subs I liked nosedive because of popularity. I saw the network effect force me to unsubscribe and search elsewhere.
I can even give you an estimate of the number of subscribers required to kill a sub, between 70k and 300k, depending on the theme of the sub. This is when the peanut gallery joins in and the spectators become the showrunners.
But value to the shareholders? Sure! More people, more ad revenues.
Find a mostly European instance. Problem solved.
Americans are desperately trying to globalize their concerns everywhere.
