  • They are going to be so shocked, stunned, and disgusted that they’re going to march right into the Senate chamber and vote the way he fucking told them to vote, but with a really big frowny face. I mean, it’s the strongest message that the United States Congress could possibly send to him. What else are they supposed to do? Vote…against… him? Criticize him…publicly? He might send out a mean tweet on both Twitter and Trump Social. These are politicians we’re talking about here! With cushy jobs and six figure salaries and staff people who have staff people. They can’t handle two mean tweets in one day!

  • Remember, the Constitution is just a really old piece of paper if the people entrusted to enforce it choose to ignore it.

There is a non-zero chance that Trump could move to suspend the Constitution entirely, backed by a complicit Cabinet, Congress, Supreme Court and several state governments. And at that point, we would literally have to hope and pray that the rank-and-file military is on the side of the people, which is far, far from guaranteed. Because if they’re not, you can claim your Constitutional rights all you want, but you’ll be doing it with the other prisoners inside of whatever re-education camp you’re assigned to.

Heck, there’s a non-zero chance that the American voter just gives off a collective “meh” and just apathetically lets Trump seize total power. We just saw a few million people do just that.

  • That actually makes it worse, since covid hit Repubicans in general harder because they skew older and less likely to follow protocols. When you actually consider that, Trump actually picked up even more voters.

Regarding voter registrations, most areas use provisional ballots or some equivalent when someone’s eligibility to vote is in question, and those ballots are typically only touched if counting them would actually impact the election.

Had there been enough people challenging their voting eligibility in even a single state, Harris and her campaign team would be all over that like flies on shit. The fact that this wasn’t brought up a single time is a strong indication that even if there was some voter suppression going on, it wasn’t enough to impact the outcome.

  • This title is highly misleading. It says that since the difference between Harris and Trump being only 3.2 million means that only 3.2 million Democrat voters stayed home, which is incorrect on multiple levels. That’s just not the case.

Joe Biden won 81.2 million votes in 2020.
Kamala Harris won 72.4 million votes in 2024.

That is just shy of a 9 million vote drop.

Where did they go? Even if you assume that a portion of former Biden voters voted for Trump, trump only gained 1.2 million votes. Which means there’s about 7.8 million votes unaccounted for at a minimum. Where are they? They stayed home.

Saying that Harris lost 9 million votes compared to Biden and saying that only 3.2 million of them stayed home is not only factually and mathematically incorrect, it gives off the impression that the rest of the voters switched to Trump (which I’m sure Trump will claim if and when given the opportunity.)

  • If being a hero was easy, then we wouldn’t celebrate heroes.

If they weren’t ready to be heroes, then why the fuck did they take a spot in Bidens admin knowing they’d be taking on the responsibility of fighting fascism?

    Fuck em.

They didn’t do the job they took, which means someone who was willing to fight didn’t get it.

Now you want me to fucking feel sorry for them because there are consequences to them not doing their job?

Feel free to stick your neck out any time, my friend. It’s easy to be a keyboard warrior. Trump can send out a mean tweet or something that ends careers and has sent cities scrambling over security, to the point where US congressmen will not criticize him out of fear for themselves and their families. But you. You are the hero we needed. You’ve got what it takes to stand right up to him. You are America’s John Connor, standing up against the Skynet of facism. My only question to you, hero of the modern age, is if it’s as easy as you say, why the fuck haven’t you done it already?

But hey, like I said, feel free to stick your neck out any time. Let me know how that works out for you.

  • I’m old as fuck…

This isn’t the first time a republican has become president and everyone thinks they’ll never get to vote again.

Also old as fuck. Outside of conspiracy theorists and rabble rousers, yes it is.

I can remember thinking 9/11 meant GW would cancel elections.

The only serious talk there was of this was the possibility of this happening if we were to have ultimately gone to war directly over 9/11. Like if things broke out and we were in a WW2 or Vietnam-level conflict with Saudi Arabia or something. Then there was talk about Bush possibly suspending elections until after the war was over. But again, mostly conspiracy-theory level stuff and not like it was going to be some authoritarian power grab.

After 9/11, far more people were pissed off over the PATRIOT act than there were people who seriously thought it would bring about the end of elections.

If trump actually cancels elections, then it’s civil war. I’m not saying that I’ll start it, but there’s no way just flat out canceling elections is something all the states go along with.

This would depend on where the loyalties of the people in the military lie.

So hopefully next time there’s a general election, at least one of the candidates will be willing to do what it takes to fight fascism.

There were two of them. And Democrat voters said that one was too old and the other was a black woman, so they had no choice but to let the facist take back power. I mean, what were they going to do? Elect a black woman?

Biden was a waste of four years. Were worse off right now then when he took office according to you if this was the last election.

Except he wasn’t, and we’re not. You know where all that inflation came from? Trump pumping trillions and trillions into the economy with big fat tax cuts for the rich and sending everybody $600 checks every month for a year and a half. I’m not even saying that the $600 checks were even bad per se given the situation we were in, but you cannot just pump that much money into the economy all at once without a huge shock to the system. Otherwise known as inflation. Biden spent 4 years getting inflation caused by Trump policies down and still got shit on for it. Solutions take time. The problem was never going to fix itself in a day. Biden got inflation down to normal, and Harris had several plans to address price gouging and other forms of greedflation. But she’s black so Democrats decided to say those plans just weren’t good enough so they were just going to put the economy into the hands of a man who’s entire economic plan is “They’re eating the dogs!”

  • It’s going to suck to see all the resignations again instead of people staying and doing as much good as they can.

The problem is that in doing that, the best outcome they can hope for is for them and their families to be doxxed and harassed by Trump supporters because they’re not MAGA enough. That’s the “good” outcome.

The rest of the options range from financial ruin to career suicide to outright jail, depending on how much Trump decides to point the Trump Hate Machine at you. Look at what happened to those two Georgia election workers. Think that, except this time it’s “legal” and it’s the full brunt of the MAGA US government.

We tried fighting the facism. Individually, we do not have the power to stop it. And collectively, we just voted for it. Especially with the GOP in a state of euphoria right now, most people who know what’s coming are more focused on trying to keep their heads down so they don’t get it chopped off. You can’t blame people for not wanting to risk it all for a fight they cannot win.

  • The Supreme Court already rules that not only is Trump all but immune from prosecution, but that he can’t even be investigated or questioned over it.

So if Trump were to make a phone call and say “Yes, we’re going to sign this into law, and schedule a meeting about that other thing. Oh, and have Tom Hanks killed in a hail of bullets, kthxbye.”, the fact that he ordered Tom Hanks killed might be prosecutable. The problem is that even if they know he ordered Tom Hanks killed, they legally can’t even ask him about it because it happened during an official phone call.

Trump could go on a crime spree that would make the Mafia legitimately look like choir boys, and Jack Smith…well, Jack Smith isn’t going to be able to do Jack about it.

    January 20, 2025 isn’t a swearing in ceremony. It’s a coronation.

  • As the song goes, “If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.” If you sat out knowing full well that doing so is a de-facto vote for Trump, you still chose to sit out. That means you still chose to make things actively worse. And you made that choice knowing that it would make things actively worse for them and for you.

Your choices have consequences. Your choice will make things worse for yourself and the people you claim to be standing up for. And you made your choice knowing that doing so would make things worse. You share in the responsibility for that, and all the cognitive dissonance in the world may make you sleep slightly better at night, but it doesn’t change that fact. Congratulations. You sent the Democrats a message to put up a “better” candidate in 2028. I’m sure that the few million Palenstinians that will be either displaced or outright killed between now and then will be grateful for that.

I voted for Harris. I support Gaza, and I know that Harris would not have likely done very much to help them. But I do not believe that the answer to that problem was to send someone in who’s plan is to kill them faster while fucking over a shit-ton of other people in the process.

And I get it. It’s a classic example of Sophie’s choice. I don’t particularly like the “Hitler/Musollini” bit but let’s just say “Killer A” and “Killer B”. I get it; No matter which one you choose, you’re dead either way so why does it matter? Totally get it. But that wasn’t what was here. It was “Killer A saying you may die in six months” vs. “Killer B is going to kill you tomorrow.” See the difference? A lot of people would likely want to live another six months, if only to hold onto the hope that they’ll find a way out in the interim.

Instead, they voted for a guy who wants to send missiles over there like it’s the 4th of July.

  • Which still leads to the same answer though. Yes, Harris would have at least been better for them because Israel would have moved much more slowly. Had Israel believed they could have sped things up under Biden, they’d have done it over a year ago.

I’m not saying either was particularly “good” for Palestine. But Harris would have still been better than Trump. Look at it this way. Your landlord comes by tomorrow and says you have six months to move out. Or he comes by and says you’re moving out tomorrow. (Legal issues aside. It’s an example. I’m sure you get my point). Which one is better for you? At least with the former you have six months with a roof over your head.

  • You can feel free to believe whatever you want, and I’m obviously not going to convince you otherwise. The math just does not agree with you. Outside of Michigan, the number of pro-Palestine people would barely qualify as a rounding error let alone be enough to swing a single other state. You are grossly over-estimating their voting power at literally every level. The subsection of Jews that even consider this a top issue to begin with outnumbers the total number of voting Palestinians and their supporters more than 5 times over. Your numbers just do not add up no matter how much you really, really stretch things to make them.
