“Have empathy” is a low bar. They’re still people who have chosen to be cops, so still a net negative.
Some people (like the user above) seem to struggle with the concept that we can establish safer alternatives to police
Usually, they’re speaking from a place of privilege. There are many people who can’t rely on police to protect them (poor people, people of color, etc.), and if we have empathy, that should be all of our concern

I assure you it is imperative that you remove your shoes so we can measure the dimensions of this bedroom
As an idiot, I welcome idiots to be my friends
but idiots can be self aware enough to know their limitations and when to defer to experts
Idiots who think they know everything are the worst. Even we idiots don’t want to be associated with them.
Yeah even though I wasn’t on the instance, I was sad to see it go
There are https://notabug.org/nbatman/freemediaheckyeah/wiki/_pages and https://fmhy.net/ but the lemmy instance is gone due to Mali reclaiming the domain.
Not sure if there are plans for another instance.
Sweet, thanks so much. I’m at a work conference, so I’m bookmarking this so I can try it first thing when I get home
Do you know which is a good starter version?
I’m really tired of Windows and Microsoft’s intrusive bullshit. I’ll probably keep Windows 10 on my current PC, but I really think it’s time to move on whenever I’m ready for a new rig in the future.
I think there’s even a way to run it along with Windows, isn’t it? Like you can boot into it instead of Windows? Just thinking I could start learning how to use it.
Another example is Microsoft’s Bing AI, which will only work in Edge. I tried it in Firefox and just changing the user agent header made it fully functional, thus showing that it was deliberately nerfed for other browsers. It wouldn’t be too hard to convince people to use an extension to spoof chrome to access non-functional web sites, though in practice any site that accepts Google’s DRM is dead to me.
Obligatory fuck Google and Microsoft. I wish I were smart enough to switch to Linux.
They’ve got to be getting paid to show it. I can’t see any other reason to force it, considering how many people are unhappy with it.
Y’know what? That’s actually something I should do as well. I have a Galaxy S8 that is no longer in service but would work perfect well as a dedicated media player, and then I wouldn’t have my listening interrupted by email and text notifications.
Oh god, I hate gesture-based earbuds. I painted over mine with clear nail polish because I’ve never once had them respond in such a way that I find helpful. Someone will invariably start yakking at me, then I have to remove an earbud, and they’ll skip tracks, power down, or do all kinds of crazy shit.
Regardless, it actually is a big deal to me that I’m having unwanted ads shoved in my face the moment I launch the app. That is not acceptable, and it’s disturbing that you seem to think it’s normal. I pay their supposedly “ad-free” plan to get ads? Fuck that.
You might want to re-read my comment. The operative term there is “for.”
Ads for podcasts, not in podcasts
I don’t listen to podcasts, and if I did, I certainly wouldn’t listen to any with sponsorships or other ads
I just block the accounts of those repost bots when I see them. I rarely if ever see those reddit reposts anymore.
I think iOS has significantly fewer alternatives than Android since (correct me if I’m wrong but) I think you are limited to the Apple Store. You could look into some of these.
Android has apps like Spotube, which has all the essential features of Spotify for free, or even LibreTube or NewPipe can be used as music apps.
I saw someone comment on reddit a couple months ago that Apple may start allowing side-loading apps. That would open up a lot of doors, and I hope it’s accurate, though who knows if the user was correct.
This is a completely different topic than what I’m talking about in my comment. I’m referring to the ads for podcasts that appear on the homescreen and can’t be blocked disabled.
I don’t listen to podcasts, and if I did I’d simply not listen to those with ads, including sponsorships. Regardless, I thought the whole point of podcasts is you can listen to them hands-free, so your skipping forward solution doesn’t seem very practical.
Ads are so ubiquitous that I feel many of us don’t even recognize we’re being advertised to anymore
At least our lord and savior is conscious about fuel efficiency
I’ve definitely had it happen on a bicycle or longboard when someone abruptly moves to the left when I ring my bell or say, “On your left.”
I don’t understand why. It puts everyone involved at risk.
Probably the same people who don’t use their turn signals in a car.
