Hey there! I am a science/technology enthusiast and regular contributor to Wikipedia. Elsewhere you may find me with the @JackFromWisconsin@wikis.world handle.

Doing good! Really happy with where I’m at in life currently.
I don’t go out of my way to get news, so social media/Lemmy. Except for local news, which I do follow more closely. But that’s it.
I know they had a word block list but I’m unsure if it’s still around.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_speech
Hate speech is defined by the Cambridge Dictionary as “public speech that expresses hate or encourages violence towards a person or group based on something such as race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation”.
Sounds like it sorts out the right kind of people? I’m not aware of anyone actually asking you to write an essay, no one would do that. 2 short answer questions does not an essay make.
It’ll drop a little, but to a significantly higher level than it was before.
Every website/bot tracks it differently. Some are opt-in only, others may only consider a certain type of software, and for others it’s just plain hard to get an exact count.
They do have a large presence in California already. But I don’t see them fully pulling out of Florida at all. They’ll keep what exists here, but I wouldn’t expect much further growth in the short-term.
It’s so refreshing having a statement written by two people, instead of a board of lawyers.
Which they have been doing. They added a bunch of mods to local communities. But it just wasn’t enough, according to them.
Its surpassing [sic] how much they want to control what other people see.
Well that’s what they’ve said from the beginning. They wanted a more curated and friendly instance, rather than having the old reddit culture.
Or go to any of the other non-blocked instances.
Makes sense, posts can be (and are) automated via repost bots. Commente and genuine interaction is impossible to fake.
This shit is why we need a Right to Privacy. Every person should have the right to be private from the eyes of the state. Our (American) constitution forbids the state from unwarranted search and seizure, quartering of troops, enacting or dictating religion, censoring your speech and expression, and stopping peaceful assemblies.
Instead of saying “Privacy is sacred”, we have a mess of individual rights, which when taken together, spell out a right to privacy. We need to fix this mess, because the bandaid of the courts can’t and won’t.
Matrix is open source and has the same ethos as other projects like Lemmy.
Discord is closed source and is similar to Reddit in principles.
They’ll appoint new mods. New mods that don’t have any experience or any professionalism. New mods that may not even be the age of majority yet. It’s a dumpster fire waiting to happen.
Donations. Click on the heart on the top bar to support Lemmy development and lemmy.ml hosting. Other instances have their own donation boxes
Right now use Windows 10 on my PC. Not interested in 11 at all. I’ve been thinking about buying an old chromebook and tossing Linux (probably Mint) on it. A friend made one of those and I thought it was really neat. Just gotta find the time, I suppose.
Not quite. An upvote on Lemmy is a favorite on mastodon. However, all posts on Lemmy look like they are a “boost” by the community when viewing from mastodon.
