+1 vote for the Dishonored games. If you want a quick showcase of what’s possible in this title or the whole series, StealthGamerBR is probably one of the best people to watch.

Same. I’ve stopped with Reddit since I’ve never posted there with my real name. No one knew me personally, and I didnt know anyone personally, so my switch to kbin was easy.
My real-life family and friends use Discord, Instagram, Messenger, Twitter, Viber, and WhatsApp, so I’ll continue to at least have accounts on those.
Part of the beauty and awe I get whenever I reread that famous excerpt from Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot is the sense of how ephemeral and delicate our existence, and even the very human concept of “existence”, is. We are infinitesimally small and yet, through no fault of our own, our days, how we fill them, and the people we know hold some measure of importance to us. And it will all be gone - eventually. It’s a very somber note yet it makes me feel a certain sense of peace.
“Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every ‘superstar,’ every ‘supreme leader,’ every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there–on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.”
I have 2 that I can recommend. First is the known quantity - the 8bitdo Pro 2. Primarily because of the dpad placement, it’s an excellent controller for older retro games. Well-built, wireless capability, remappable buttons, etc etc. Covers Windows, Mac, Android, and Switch. You know the drill.
But the GameSir T4 Kaleid really surprised me. For a little over $41 you get: hall effect sticks AND triggers, microswitch face buttons, 2 back paddles, remaps, and possibly the cleanest implementation of RGB strips I’ve seen on an electronic device, ever. There are only 2 downsides for me: the GameSir logo (chickens are cool but just not my thing), and it’s wired only. Otherwise it’s a seriously awesome piece of kit.
I’ve never owned an Xbox in my life, only PlayStations, so I thought I wouldn’t like the staggered joystick layout, but it is surprisingly comfortable.
ActRaiser blew my mind the first time I played it. Having the chance to descend into your creation for some sidescrolling action was absolutely a surprise.
I was kinda obsessed with this game as a kid, and played it enough that I memorized every puzzle and solution. I would go through a playthrough in about half an hour. That’s still long compared to most speedrunners these days… but isn’t it funny how we used to play the same story-driven games over and over even though most of them never had alternate endings?
Great game. And it reminds me of a time when LucasArts pumped these titles out like there was no tomorrow.
I currently have:
And mostly because I’ve already watched everything I wanted to watch on these, I’ve recently cut:
Others used RIF and Apollo, but I was firmly Team BaconReader from the moment I downloaded it a decade ago. I had deleted the application off my phone a few weeks back to help curb the habit, but seeing this now really hammered the nail into the coffin. At least it now has its own send off of sorts with one last update to the Play Store.
On the off chance that they see this, thank you BaconReader devs for 12 years of service!!
You’re telling me! Excited to get home, install them and see what all the great reviews are saying.
This is my signal to buy Into the Breach and jump in.
I’m also giving into the Resident Evil series that’s been on my wishlist for waaay too long… RE Remake, RE 0 Remake, RE 2, RE 3, RE 7.
Village and RE 4 will have to wait as the price hasn’t dropped enough yet. >:D
Oh man, I knew there were a lot but I had no idea.
I remember when Google Wave was demo’ed to a live audience, there were audible ooohs and aaahs from the crowd. It was such a mindblowing idea 14 years ago, shame it never really got off the ground.
That’s uncanny. How did you get it so close?
EDIT: Actually not close, bang on!
I like it because it helps break my Coke addiction.
EDIT: Coca-Cola* addiction
I have exactly the same thoughts. Hell no, and then a maybe combined with a long list of conditions that are as realistic as the API usage prices Reddit expects 3rd party devs to pay for.
I bought the Mustang Alpha and Avenger Titan pledges last year and played for quite a bit. Ran around naked in the cold of New Babbage. Passed out and woke up in Brentworth. Suited up and did some mining with my multitool. Flew the ships. Did some fetch quests. Fired a gun or two. Blew up the ships (multiple times). Had a blast.
I really think it will take years at this point to get it to where they want it to be, but in the meantime I enjoyed how the players treated it seriously, and not seriously at the same time, if that makes sense.
BTW, there’s a pretty active community on !starcitizen@lemmy.ml.
I’ve tried both as a forum admin. I think it’s just a matter of preference at this point. phpBB is still sporting that old compact style, which kinda makes it look dated.
I’m interested in spinning one up as well, mostly for having the choice of what to name the domain lmao. Right now I gotta look more into it. Hopefully @dan can get back to us with some numbers.
I’ve heard that kbin supports blocking entire instances at a user level
Yes, to do this, go to kbin.social/d/insertinstancehere, then block from there.
I think this is one of the strengths of kbin, because kbin itself can be open and neutral as much as possible and let each user decide the content they want/don’t want to see. Of course this doesn’t stop bad actors from coming over, making accounts, and start giving the instance a bad reputation, making it increasingly likely for it to be defederated by other instances…
Joke’s on us, that’s exactly what he thinks.
In the Philippines, it’s Juan and Maria dela Cruz, although those have fallen out of use due to the popularity of Western (aka US) culture. Interesting reading about every country’s own names for their everyman.
