  • I remember watching this movie when I was around 12 years old. Had never heard of it before just started watching it and loved it. It’s It has become one of my top 3 favorite movies. It also introduced me to the world of the blues and some of the best blues musicians/singers.

I remember buying the soundtrack on CD and playing it over and over again. I think I was the only pre-teen that knew of Cab Calloway and could sing “hi-de-ho” .

wow, I was a weird kid

  • My opinion:

Humanity doesn’t evolve sociologically or technologically with out weird. If the world was all middle of the road beige “yes” men and women to what those in power say is correct way to live, laugh and love then the interesting things in this world die.

“Weird” people are the ones that challenge this middle of the road thinking. They are the brave ones. They are the ones that say fuck it to this middle of the road life and just do their thing. I envy the Weird, they have to fight against the easier/conformist way of living to be themselves, but by doing so they are happier and in a small way they make the world a better more interesting place.

In this context I talk of weird as in good weird, trump et. al. are not weird by my definition they are instead the ones fighting against the weird because to them it’s scary, different and it challenges their hold on reality and what is “right.”

  • True. But the people advocating for these laws don’t want to deal with nuance and compromise on what it would take to have a society where you educate people on sex in a healthy and positive way. These prohibitionists see the world as either bad or good - nothing in between. Good (how ever they decide to define it) must win no compromises, and the weapon that they use is unfounded fear of the bad and it works.

And the reason fear works is because it is easy and visceral and reality’s complexity doesn’t work for media’s need for sound bites.

    reminds me of a story:

Got invited to a dinner party of people I didn’t know well, they were friends of my then girlfriend.

So we were sitting around before dinner chatting and drinking and I brought up a question about something that we were all talking about. I don’t remember what it was but the point was just to keep conversation going and to interact with people. BUT one lady just looked at me and said “why don’t you just Google it?!” Shut down conversation completely.

Sure I could Google it Karen but that doesn’t make for good conversation!

  • Yep. If you are not willing to make the changes to your habits around eating and exercise as well as work on your mental well being then you will not see the long term changes you are looking for.

I think for many people it’s no so much that they want to regain the weight, it’s just they don’t know how to make the changes that they need to make to lose the weight and keep it off. And I think the biggest change that people need to make is looking at their mental health and how that is contributing to their long term weight gain.
