Yes to this! Fanfiction is a personal journey. It’s. Ever too late to start. Well said. :)
Hmmm, on the bright side, with lemmy going mainstream maybe some of this culture (including privacy and FOSS) becomes more and more openly discussed.
Haha. Our lives were taken over by fanfics at some point. Though I wouldn’t trade fanfiction for anything. It was my comfort zone, my teacher and to some really loaded ones, a mentor and a therapist. A fanfic even helped me process a painful break up. Where others would just say “you’ll get over it”. I find the fanfic communities are more supportive than people IRL.
That said, your advice is very solid. A lot of us had that negative review from time to time. But we can always delete or ignore them. Fanfictions are our safe space. We read and write at our own comfort levels. :)
Yeah, I think we’re similar. I tend to write my Naruto fanfics where Neji is actually alive. And I’m making it my goal to get TenTen and the rest to shine.
Woah, I was always inspired by stories like this. There are seriously skilled writers out there who can make a living from their written works, much less a fanfic.
Ironically, a self insert would be the last I expect to take off commercially. But wow, that’s just inspiring.
Ahh that’s true. I think AO3 caters more to ships and romances. So many gen fics on ff.net but man, the people there rarely reviews anymore. At least in my fandom, people are quicker to comment on AO3. I still get notifications from fics I wrote 2 years ago. And that says a lot about the level of engagement (or maybe the amount of users) in AO3. I like that it’s community driven and run by donations too, unlike Ff which is run by ads and we all know how twitter and reddit turns out.
I only fear that so many of the fics I love will disappear if the owner of ff.net somehow decided it’s no longer profitable.
I guess we all started the same way. I was the same. I started on a fansite on wetpaint (now defunct, under a different name) then moved on to ff.net until AO3 came around. I still write for my fanfom from time to time but life often gets in the way unfortunately. :(
Thanks. Yeah, I guess you’re right. Just have to wait for more users. :)
Trading one master for another, I see.
You have better eyes than me. :)
No, the fire’s still burning. As long as reddit keeps making news, people will keep talking. :)
Ahh if that’s the case, then I have no sympathy to those who choose to stay. They deserve whatever half baked idiocy reddit will throw at them.
peeks at comments
Mildly disappointed that no one mentioned leaving reddit for lemmy, but also mildly impressed at the level of commitment of these redditors.
An understandable choice. Last I checked, FF was a ghost town.
Lol as an all-in apple guy (with iphone, ipad, mac, and a die hard airdrop fan), I’m mostly amused. But not at all offended. Win11 is a disaster. So I’m perfectly happy simping for Mac. XD
Oh my. Now I’m intrigued. Haha. But you are so right. Ff.net has so many gems that are just not on AO3. I still crosspost though, if only because I still have some readers there. But I do notice that activity has decreased over the years.
Hmm, I posted in Games and I haven’t have problems so far knocks on wood.
Well if your interest aligns with some of the communities I moderate, feel free to join in. I have a game related one that’s relatively new but mostly positive.
Feel free to look around my profile if you’re feeling bored.
Oh and don’t take this the wrong way, but the apple thing was maybe to be expected
What community are you subscribed to?
Generally, my experience was welcoming with long posts and orderly discussion.
Oops, ironically, I was reading on my kindle. So I didn’t even notice it was down. I guess this counts as procrastination still? 😆
Let’s go!!! 🔥
