Guess we should all be unemployed not to be oppressed.
Guess we should all be unemployed not to be oppressed.
What immense power? You can hand in your resignation and all that power, money and piles of gold suddenly mean nothing when you don’t have the basic component that makes the gears turn. Workers are also not oppressed, because workers can quit if it’s not fitting for them. Staying there by free will to take the shit in is not oppression… We already have very mobile workforce that basically does job jumping every 2 years, and people are having less and less issue with simply quitting. So what is exactly the problem for the worker, expect that they want to work in a company, but on THEIR terms, and not the company terms?
Not defending Amazon in any way, but I think the playing field is quite level right now between the employer and employees. Both are free to make decisions, both are free to work together or part ways. So I am not seeing an issue other than the worker wanting to control how the company is run.
Consequences aside, he has a totally valid point. They own the business, they are the boss, and they can decide. People might not like it, but in the end, it is their problem and people are free to change their job. People got a bit to comfortable lately and every single employee expects the company to be run just as they prefer. Even when you work fully remote, there are still people who find it really hard and stupid as they never get to see their collegues and spend the entire day just staring at the monitor. You will never make everyone happy, so why bother complaining. The decision has been made, take it or leave it.
It’s open source standard, anyone can contribute…
Unless you can follow specific people on blocked instances, this is a fail. If my friend is on another instance which is blocked from my instance… whats the point of the fediverse? Might aswell go back to Facebook or X/Twitter. They are shitty but at least I can see my friends.
I don’t know or need to know the handle. I know my friends name and surname and that must be more than enough. Facebook doesn’t need “@facebook” and twitter doesn’t need “@twitter” to find people if they exist there. I know the feature is coming but it is the key to make it accessible to wide range of average Joes who don’t want to, in their own vision, be rocket scientists to find people on the fediverse. It needs to be as simple as on facebook or other networks.
It’s not dead but it has one big and massive issue that prevents mass adoption - discovery. If I can’t just write the name of my friends in search and find them no matter where they made their account - for an ordinary user, or one that comes from centralized services, this seems extremely alien and hostile.
And in the end, if you can’t find your friends, you want to interact with, what is the point of using the service?
Luckily, Mastodon is working on a discorvery protocol that should offer a way to find people across the board, which will hopefully make the Fediverse “appear” centralized to the average Joe while maintaining all the benefits of decentralization to the advanced users.
There are no search engines besides Google and Bing, because everyone else just uses Bing under the hood.
Everyone I know has at least 10 USB-C cables lying around, what’s the point of shipping more e-waste?
Idk, usually people shut down their business if it can’t make a profit…
Its easier to just sign up and find everyone immediately, than to go learn what are instances and which one should you choose to make an account on, and then go and learn how to find other people that are not on that instance, or how to check do they have a mastodon account at all, then go and learn how to XY.
The “go and learn” is something that people, most of them, just don’t want to do. If you need to learn how to use something, this is the first indicator of a bad user experience. It should be obviously easy for a new person to get around.
Not everyone has coworkers like that.
Nobody bosses me around, I just work until I’m done, and I don’t need to manage my time, because I have all the time in the world working from home. Also, it feels like being in home prison, never seeing anyone you work with. Have the feeling some people exist only on computer screens.
I understand the benefits of working from home, but meeting other people in the office is what made it human to begin with. I miss chatting with people while getting coffee about non-work related stuff. I knew what was going on without needing a meeting or briefing. I could just work in the office on things I needed to work - which made it so I could go home earlier. Now I am just at home all the time, wasting my time in meetings. Idk, I wish it would work for me, but it just doesn’t. I need the social aspect of the office.
In comparison to the non-existing work-life balance in most remote positions where you are basically available 0-24? No thanks. I’d rather travel, the 20min in the morning is perfect to “wake up fully” and in the afternoon to decompress while getting home.
Their job is to maximize shareholder profit. That is their only and one true job as CEOs. If you want a CEO that is not evil, look for companies that are not public even though they could be.
He is not wrong tho… it’s the company interest vs employee interest. And I must say, as someone who works 100% remotely, sometimes I do wish we are all again at the office. It was so easier to know whats happening around you on the fly, instead of spending half a day in your calendar making or taking meetings.
Imagine… a 3+ day battery if the battery thickness would increase to make the back flat.
Thin phones are NOT the future, long battery life is.
I think there is a possibility to have a local client using Gmail, with a rule set to delete mails on Gmail as soon as they are synced locally. So in this case Gmail would be nothing more than a relay/proxy, while your mails would actually be offline.
It’s not that people ignore it, it’s just that they don’t really have an alternative. You can rent from Microsoft or Apple, or go the Linux way where you don’t have the proper UX an average user needs and is accustomed to with Windows or macOS.
It’s literally a fork. Open some files, they are exactly the same. Someone just exported easy notes and then uploaded it again with different icon and name so people won’t immediately see it’s a fork.
