      Pardon my ignorance on the history of this, but who was Victoria? Was Victoria a moderator of the subreddit or an admin of Reddit or something?

        She worked at reddit and ran the AMAs. She was kind of the person who made a tangible bridge between the community and the person doing the AMA. She often served as sort of an interviewer and guide for the guest.

        I think probably why people lament her being fired was because she had a real knack for interacting with the celebrities and for getting them to answer some of the more fun or insightful questions, as opposed to the celebrity’s PR person who would just pick what they thought were “safe” questions.

        She would also do stuff like add little notes of her own into the AMA (maybe the person made an aside joke that she would then add, or put her own commentary about a funny expression the guest made or whatever). She kind of humanized the whole thing.

    This article is still relevant today for what it mentions needs to change at Reddit. The fact that it’s still accurate is almost like a Simpsons episode; it’s not that they’re showcasing new issues, it’s that nothing has changed for that long.

    For me AMA’s havent been relevant for a decade now. Back when reddit was smaller and it was quirky insight from mostly users with the occasional low level celeb who actually stumbled onto the site and wanted to answer questions.

    Once reddit blew up it became repetitive, and the “big name” celebs were mostly just there as a PR move with a PR handler typing out responses, ignoring hard questions, and promoting themselves.
