No spoilers

I loved FF7 Remake, but Rebirth is really not doing it for me. My main issue with it is the story. It feels totally aimless. Almost nothing meaningful has happened in the entire 35 hours I’ve played. Also, I find most of the characters to be very annoying. The dialogue and cinematography are awkward. (Why are there so many uncomfortable close-ups of characters faces? Why do the female characters keep giggling for no reason? Tifa and Aerith don’t seem to know each other very well but they sure like to giggle to each other.)

I do love the combat system though. And the open world stuff is often enjoyable. But it doesn’t make up for how the story feels like such a slog.

Does anyone else feel this way? I was expecting to love this game after loving Remake so much, but honestly at this point I’m just forcing myself to finish the game so I can make sure I’m caught up for part 3.

I feel like some people just say this out of spite because they don’t like that the game was remade. My dude you spent 35 hours on this game. Who are you trying to fool?

That sounds like how I remember FF7 being.

Is this game a clone? It’s definitely a clone. It’s not a clone. It’s maybe a clone. Is it a clone?

    That’s FF7.

I ain’t so far into the game (around 10 hours and arriving in Junon), but I ain’t so fond of the story telling. The characters are clearly caricatures with the silent shy guy (cloud), the nice strong awkward guy (barret), the naive cute lady (aerith) and so on…

I guess the story is also difficult to reinvent and might be a bit stuck in the 90’s. I’m still clearly enjoying the game so far, but storytelling has moved on and it doesn’t come close to a masterpiece like Last Of Us 2 in that regard.

Still the world is enjoyable, the gameplay too (although I preferred the original combat system) and it’s good to play something naive from time to time too.

It’s Act 2. Just chill and enjoy the silliness and roam around. Or rush through it and try battles in hard mode

I felt similar about the Remake, it was… Just lacking something. I never played the original so my connection wasn’t so strong, I just expected more.

Haven’t played either remakes, but I feel like the brevity (and, at its time, novelty) of the story/scenes in the original made them a bit stronger. Some of the dramatically lengthened scenes have kind of undershot their impact.

Plus, with text speech and tiny gestures from 3D models, your mind was filling in the details your own way, which could actually work well sometimes.

Did you play the original OP? Have anyone here but me play the original and beat it? I am playing Remake before starting Rebirth I thought it would be a continuing of the original story am I wrong.

Remake the battle system is okay except for summons. I preferred the original for that.
