I noticed that when I sort by active or hot, it looks like the results have been staying completely the same for a past week or so, even when new posts are being made and getting comments and votes. Even on the “all” page, active and hot appear to be stuck. I checked a few other Lemmy instances, and their active and hot sorts seem to be fine, so I don’t think it’s a bug in the software.
I would strongly recommend sorting by “Top Day” if you’re looking for posts that have a fair amount of interaction but also want to see new things in the feed.
Hmm. This does work somewhat, but it seems like a lot of posts are still missing. See here: https://lemmy.comfysnug.space/c/programming@programming.dev/data_type/Post/sort/TopDay/page/1
There are no posts for Top Day when viewed from this instance, but when viewing it from programming.dev, you can see 5 at the time I’m writing this: https://programming.dev/c/programming?dataType=Post&page=1&sort=TopDay
That’s what I already do currently because active and hot are broken, but I thought it was worth making a post saying that they’re broken since that doesn’t appear to be the case on other instances.
I’ll be updating to the latest version soon:tm: so hopefully that will get fixed?
Seems to be fixed!

Sorry. For some reason, I didn’t get a notification when you responded.
Yes, updating to 0.18 did seem to fix the issue. The active sorting appears to work now, thanks! The hot sort is acting very wonky though. It kinda feels random with very old posts and then the newest posts and none of them seem to have particularly high scores. I’m guessing that’s just because you just updated though, so the algorithm for hot sorting is confused, and it’ll work itself out.
I’m not so sure…i don’t think hot has ever worked quite right for the short time I’ve been running this server
I’ve also experienced the same. However, switching to New works correctly. This instance does seem to be syncing occasionally, though. If I stay on a community page for ~10 minutes and a new post gets made, that new post will show up at the top without refreshing.
For the record, lemmy.ml reports some posts from this instance as having 7 comments when there are only 4 or 5 comments. But the syncing issues are more extreme on this instance than others.
