Lemmy the Fediverse alternative to Reddit is having his moment of glory, but it takes the help of the whole Fediverse to make this magical moment become the beginning of a new era!

@fediverse

#Reddit’s API policies for third-party apps are causing a small exodus of users to what is now its most functional alternative: #Lemmy.

In the last 48 hours, the Italian instance feddit.it has had the registrations they usually have in two months, but it seems that this is a generalized phenomenon!
Now we need to make those users stay. How can we do it?

Here we need help from all over the Fediverse and above all we need the #mastohelp of the largest community in the #Fediverse!
In fact, Reddit users feel comfortable there, not only due to its ergonomics, but also due to the liveliness of the subreddits and the number of threads; the problem is that Lemmy users are a fraction of those of Reddit: how will they be able to guarantee a vitality comparable to that of Reddit?
But this is exactly where the Fedeverse comes into play! In fact, even without subscribing to Lemmy, Mastodon, Friendica, Pleroma, Misskey and even Pixelfed users can comment and open threads on the Lemmy communities.

Here is a simple explanation of how to write a post about a Lemmy community:

Introductory text of the message (less than 200 characters and possibly without hashtags or mentions) which will become the title of the thread as you will see it on Lemmy
Community mention
Additional text (with any hashtags and other mentions) that will become the text of the post as seen on Lemmy
Any additional mentions for Friendica groups/forums
Link to the article (let's remember that Lemmy is basically an alternative to Reddit, which is basically a news aggregator)
Any attached images

Many of the current Fediverse users landed on Mastodon when Musk switched Twitter, and stayed mostly because they found the environment enjoyable and inspiring; now it would be perfect if they could help the “refugees” of Reddit by creating an inspiring environment on Lemmy!

PS: to all the Italian enthusiasts who are reading this post, we remind you that the Friendica poliverso.org instance has set up, together with the Italian site @lealternative, the Lemmy instance feddit.it

    > Lemmy’s primary instance has a fairly serious moderation problem

    Taking this at face value (what is or isn’t a “moderation problem” depends a lot on your value);

    a) there’s no such thing as a “primary instance” in the fediverse.

    b) as with any fediverse app, moderation can happen at the instance level, and the user level.

    c) I’ve not used Lemmy much, but I presume that moderation can also happen per subLemmy.

        @fishidwardrobe @strypey @lealternative

        “elsewhere I read”, “someone said”
        therefore
        Lemmy is bad

        Ok, I read this kind of passive aggressive type of messages every day now. more often than not, they are accompanied by the advice to use another alternative software to Lemmy (very interesting software, albeit in Beta rel.).
        I’d say this little smear campaign against Lemmy developers isn’t working… 😁 😄 🤣
        I would say that it would be appropriate to stop trying again.

          @piratepost @strypey @lealternative I didn’t say Lemmy was bad. I said “So, there’s that”. As in, “factor that into your equations”.

          The account I saw wasn’t pushing any alternative software. I won’t link to it here in case of pile-on. I’ve already muted two people on this thread.

          But, in one sense, yes: this is a second hand account of Lemmy I have not verified. You should also factor THAT into your equations.

            @fishidwardrobe @strypey @lealternative it’s always the same message. A ridiculous thing! Also I remind you that, apart from the fact that your message is not at all relevant to this thread (this thread is an invitation to support Lemmy and not to present absurd accusations against its developers), it was you who came to write below my message… 😁 😄 🤣

            So now I would also get bored… I’m starting to apply the golden rule:

            THis is the problem with the sort of “smear” or “negativity” habbits on here (and no doubt other/all social media).

            That it’s almost all hearsay is never stated nor understood. And the fact of the matter is that we all love to get negative about things, so it spreads like fire.

            On twitter when taking down the corrupt and powerful, that’s probably a good and useful weapon. On the fediverse about other instances and platforms?!?! Probably just a plain destructive behaviour to be frank with you.

            If we’re all too eager to make sure we’re “in the good place” by shooting down anything that could possibly “from the bad place”, the problem is we may just end up with not much of a place in the end.

                > the other problem on here is that we all like to gang up to deny that there could ever be a problem on here

                I’m all for making specific criticisms, with links to sources or primary evidence. Just spreading scuttlebutt isn’t the way to expose or address problems, ever. It is, however, a habit that can be exploited by Bad Actors trying to spread FUD for any number of reasons (commercial motives geoplitical motives, personal grudge, etc)

                  @strypey @lealternative @fishidwardrobe @maegul I think you too have noticed that there are people who have no intention of positively discussing this or that Fediverse software, who have no intention of expressing a technical or ergonomic opinion on the functionality of a software or of expressing ideas for improvement the social environment. These people always post the same message 🤦🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

                  They are only interested in one issue, always the same, namely the one that makes them enter public threads to repeat their mantra over and over again.

                  Blessed be the holy man or holy woman who created the “mute” feature. And glory to the holy man or holy woman who created the “block” function 😂

                    … anything. Yes, I notice them. Cluster B personalities most of them, or Flying Monkeys in their thrall.

                    But yes, trolls gunna troll, and FUD-spreaders gunna spread FUD. Do not feed.
