Just woke up to like 24 applications, approved like 18 of them. If you were one of those applications, you should be good to login now.

No, nothing like that. When we first started the instance, we would approve everyone, pretty much regardless of reason. After about a day, we decided to put in a few more checks and balances. We were getting a lot of application reasons simply saying “reddit refugee” and a few others which showed no intention to contribute to the instance or even that they had read what the instance was about. We still accept most applications, but they have to show that they put in the minimal amount of effort to understand what this instance is about and ideally that they intend to contribute to it.

Hope this helps answer your question. Let me know if you need any further explaination. :)

I don’t think that’s a good enough reason to reject anyone. Lurkers are important too, and I think it’s fine if people don’t fully understand the website until they’ve been here a few days or even a few months. I would very strongly recommend getting rid of the rather medieval approval process. The only thing it accomplishes is bouncing people away from the website.

Easy flow of site usage is incredibly important to hook new users, and that means being able to see content and post content the first time they’re here with minimal fuss, instead of having to come back later.
