I agree about them being "cartoonish but well written villains.
The dynamic between the ascians and… well, everyone else is interesting. The Emet-Selch quote and their “academic” nature paints the picture of them viewing us as not much more than a thought experiment.
I guess one thing that shows their humanity though is their desperate clinging to the past. And then even more with Emet-Selch and his loneliness.
Ascians fighting for the past, sundered souls fighting for the future.
Anyway I’m hoping our future adventures will be less ascian centered, at least for a few expansions.
