Found a mushroom growing up in a tree in my backyard. Curious to know what variety it is. Any information is appreciated!

Internet forums aren’t always a great place for IDs, especially if you have any plans to eat the things you find.

It also takes more info than just one photo to properly ID a mushroom. Details of the cap, stalk, gills/pores, location, what it’s growing on are all important to an accurate ID.

Thanks for that. No intention on eating it, I’m no where near knowledgeable enough to make that call.

Was more just curious & have really enjoyed reading the information shared I n this community.

I’m sure some would/could try, but at least for anything specific and with any certainty you would need to post more pictures with different perspectives and details!

May I recommend iNaturalist? That usually gets me within genus. Get a clear view of the underside. A spore print is helpful if you can manage.

While I love iNaturalist for insects and plants, they seem to struggle with suggesting mushrooms. That, or I really don’t know how to ID mushrooms.
