They still use the former description, as they are probably unaware of the recent discussions
Which discussions?
The current pinned thread
Just a heads up but the pinned post doesn’t show up for myself and anyone else on an instance that defederated from hexbear
What did hexbear do to get defederated by numerous instances?
They can be quite vocal in their argumentation
What does your text mean? Could you explain in plain English? ^^
Have a look at this thread and see yourself: https://hexbear.net/post/403920
Ah, interesting, I didn’t think about that
A Link To The Past on the SNES is where it all started
This kind of neurotic behavior will always be present in communities hosted on lemmy.ml and is why in the long run people will prefer communities on lemmy.world
I guess we’ll probably see a shift of instances clusters based on political opinions.
LW on one side, ML on the other
Changing the color of your desktop is racist, delete the sublemmy now
I still don’t understand why the use of racism in the description. It derives from the idea that race is actually a thing, and in a way it still promotes the idea. I would like to see a change for the much better and modern term “ethnicism”.
Race is a social concept. Race is a thing which exists. Gender is a social concept. Gender is a thing which exists. Race is based on ethnicity, but can’t be explained by it alone, gender is based on sex, but can’t be explained by it alone.
I was bullshitting hard there but holy cow, race is a social concept is unironically the most racist shit I ever heard of

There is no racial distinction in biology. Our brains make up race, based on what we see and assume about people.
This should actually be pretty obvious because what counts as “white” as changed over the decades, as society changes.

to be fair, most classifications in biology are based on human observation of common traits
You’re not technically wrong, but you’re comparing apples to oranges. Taxonomic etymology is far more scientifically rigorous than “white fur cat species” vs “black fur cat species”.
them orange cats be up to something and you know it
