I’m trying to dive into new communities and keep things active. What communities would you guys recommend?

This is hugely personal to your own interests. Personally I am subscribed to communities around news, science, gaming, whiskey, and my favorite sports team. You can always use the community browser to look for something specific or just keep an eye on the “all” listing to see if something catches your eye.
I’m partly curious what others’ interests are! But thank you for the suggestion also!
Yeah I scrolled through the community browser adding anything that looked interesting.
selfhosted@lemmy.world, but it’s not gonna be too interesting if you don’t care about self hosting…
