I have been watching Linus on and off since the NCIX days, but given all the news i’ve read over the last few days (including the disturbing sexual harassment/workplace culture details), he is breaking my heart, going down I path I cant follow.

Let’s not forget that this is a medium sized corporation and not everything is Linus’ fault. Despite everything that’s happening, I’m still quite convinced that most people there are great and doing OK.
With (I think) more than 100 people there and going, it would be a miracle to not run into problems. Not only because of new hires, but also because responsibilities and structures change, cultures clash and some people just won’t get along too well from the start. Although the extent is quite alarming, that is true.
I’m not sure whether I’m satisfied with LMGs response to the criticism, but it sure as hell was way better than Linus’ rant. I’m appalled by the allegations that have been risen, but I’m also aware that we actually know very little so far.
Maybe there really is person or even a group of people who have actually become a real problem and maybe the rest, including leadership, failed to recognize that. In this case they should get rid of them. That’s the only appropriate response for this caliber of allegations.
The fact that the leadership apparently failed to recognize what was going on is of course very bad, but I can also tell you that it is actually very hard to handle these things well. That’s why HR exists (or better, should exist). That’s why companies spend a ton of money and scientists a ton of research on sorting out how to make things work: Because management is actually very hard in every way you can imagine and then some.
So let’s not be too unfair towards Linus and the other top brass, because they were not trained to handle for example HR and probably never realized how bad they need it. I’m sure it was a shock for them as well. And I’m curious to see what Terren can still teach Linus as the new CEO. He’s got some work in front of him for sure.
Linus helped me get motivated and confident enough to have the career I have today, if it wasn’t for Linus back in the early early 2010s I’d still be a retail nobody.
But alas I never idolized him, and it doesn’t surprise me that much for the company to do what it’s done. What Madison says doesn’t surprise me. I’m also a woman in the infotech industry, and I’ve seen a lot of crap - but mostly in my personal hobbies like video gaming and MTG.
Wait for WAN show and for what he has to say about it before coming to conclusions.
It’s not looking good right now but if he (and also the new CEO) commits to fixing the issues in his company, we should give him time to follow through with those promises.
I thought he already said in a lengthy forum post that he specifically would not be talking about it at the next WAN show
He did, but with the new allegations I doubt this is going to remain a sweep under the rug type deal.
True. I guess we’ll have to see how the situation plays out
Sorry, didn’t see that before. And boy, that’s bad. No comment on the many graphs steve showed that were clearly wrong, but a corpo marketing response instead.
It will happen. Maybe not this one or the next week but it will happen.
Keeping quiet may achieve to let grass grow over it or it may blow up.
Nah dude. GN called them out on their technical bullshit about a week ago. Linus then proceeded to shift blame and gaslight like a sociopath. GN made some additional brief commentary about how they were dismayed by his reaction, and left it at that. Then one of LMG’s until-very-recently-employees came out about some (at this point, admittedly uncorroborated, but) pretty heinous abuse she had suffered while working there, including sexual harassment, to the degree that she engaged in self-harm.
Linus is showing us who he really is with how he’s responded to this sequence of events. I, for one, believe him - but that’s probably largely due to the fact that I entirely cut off contact with one of my best friends a couple years ago after some stuff came out that made it abundantly clear that he was a complete and total psychopath, and just really good at hiding it, so I’m probably overly sensitive to things like this.
Yes this is thr big thing. Don’t let people take you for a sucker. But definitely be open to giving second chances. If we never give Second Chances then it’s never worth it for people to try to make amends.
