I guess it is a consequence of the Reddit migration where the habit is just keeping the old community name. But having C/Politics being US only on Lemmy.world, an instance that aims to be international (hence the name), seems weird to me.
Would have been cool to give up this assumption that everything is related to US by default when moving away from Reddit. I mean, even the canadian political news of Lemmy.ca is CanadaPolitics.
If the moderators were a little better than ignorant, they would just change the name of the community. They seem to think that lemmy.world is the new Reddit or a clone of Reddit and they also seem to think that the USA is the default here. They just created a politics community first, made a rule about it being US only, and they see no problem with that because they are ignorant. That’s about it. Nobody can force them to change the name, but if people stopped interacting with the community because it’s named “Politics” and not “US Politics” it would die. That probably won’t happen because a lot of Americans don’t have a problem with it. Guess why.
So if uspolitics has to be uspolitics why not create your whereverwhinybitchesarefromPolitics too, since you want somewhere to post your politics shit? Not sure why you need a broad namespace for your stuff
