Does anyone know if changing to #Obsidian Sync would mean I would no longer be able to use Drafts actions to slot text exactly where I want it in my vault?
@ellane @obsidianmd @drafts I use the draft actions I got from you and I use obsidian sync. I’ve got three configured; one to append to the daily note, one to append to the master task list, and a third which copies a draft as a new file into a hard-coded obsidian folder (named “inbox”). I use the two append ones more often than the new file one but I haven’t had any sync issues
@astrophoenix @obsidianmd @drafts Great news, thank you!
@ellane @obsidianmd @drafts afaik no. Drafts just automates the insertion of text in your files right? Then obsidian sync would behave just as if you had manually added it there.
@ellane @obsidianmd @drafts I haven’t had any issues and I’ve been using Sync for two years. But the best place to ask is the Obsidian Sync channel on the Discord. You have a high chance of getting a response directly from Licat or another dev there. You can grab an invitation here: https://obsidian.md/community
@ellane @obsidianmd @drafts I use Drafts and Obsidian Sync together and haven’t had issues.
@ellane @obsidianmd @drafts Oh, but one thing… when I use it with Shortcuts, I do build in opening Obsidian as the last action to trigger it syncing.
If you’re appending to an existing note, you’d want to make sure your mobile device is synced first.
@ellane @obsidianmd @drafts I don’t know the answer to this directly, but I know that @actionsdotwork is likely going to be helpful!
@ellane @obsidianmd @drafts At least in my few weeks experience with Obsidian sync, it gets grumpy if any note is open when the app first opens. The sync process will try to combine versions, but it doesn’t always do so elegantly.
I haven’t lost any content yet, but I have had the content of notes duplicated, and even entire notes duplicated into additional copies.
So I suspect you’d be setting yourself up for similar frustration if you used a Drafts action—at least if the text you added went into an already-existing note instead of an entirely new one.
@ellane @obsidianmd @drafts Should still work just fine. The location of your vault locally doesn’t change. Sync just syncs anything in that location.
@curtismchale @obsidianmd @drafts That’s good news, thanks
