It feels like every time I find a podcast about security/networking/technology the hosts end up saying some pretty off-color stuff, or I look them up and they also host right wing podcasts. Are there any that are more leftist, hosted by LGBT peeps, or at least not actively bigoted ?

I’m not going to say they are leftist, but TWIT.tv podcasts are socially left where you would expect technologists, for when conversations do involve politically related tech stories.

Security Now on TWIT.tv rarely touches anything political, gives a good highlight of some security news for the week, and usually one in depth/technical story. Hosted by Steve Gibson.

This Week in Tech (the show with the name of the podcast network) is tech news stories of the week with highlights and commentary from guests/journalists in the tech community, and sometimes a tech lawyer/advocate if legal related news that week.

This Week in Google, is not about Google, really just tech news and banter from former journalist/journalism professor Jeff Jarvis, and Stacy Higgenbotham from Stacey on IoT. Tries to include something Google in the stories, but really, not about Google anymore, just a generally tech podcast.

TWiT was created by Leo Laporte of Tech TV/Screensavers fame back before TechTV went full gaming. He is a host/co-host on each of the above shows.

There is also This Week in Enterprise Tech (Leo is not on this one), if you are interested in enterprise.

A few other shows, like This Week in Space or something like that. The top 3 I listed are the shows I watch though. Feel free to explore.

I love Laporte’s personality, although he’s not strong technically. I feel like 90% of schtick on TechTV was to act like a confused grandpa while others did the explaining.

But it’s a pretty good trick for running a balanced, and not overly technical, video stream.

He Does have a tendency to talk over co-host and guests sometimes, but he does have a lot of smart people on the shows.

Other than security now though, the show’s tend to not get too in depth, but retain the appeal to a wider audience.

I use it as good. Geeky background noise while I work

      I’ll second Security Now!

Listened to it for years but kind of lost track when I stopped having to commute. Kind of miss it really but I don’t find as much time for podcasts these days sadly.

I 100% recommend TWIT, best tech podcast I listen to.

I usually listed at 1.2x speed with gap skipping on, because they can talk a bit slow.

Really great for weekly overviews of tech news, and excellent guests.

I’ll second TWIT too. Have to agree with the other comments, but I still stick with them. I listen on 1.5x which you get used to.

I occasionally listen to twit and my only major complaints are: 1) Leo interrupts his guests too much, and 2) whenever Amy Web or Owen Stone come on I have to skip the episode…
