I’ve been having a hard time finding the “perfect” Mastodon instance (for me).
Mastodon.social is obviously the biggest one, but every time I check the Explore tab, it’s people complaining about Twitter/Threads/Reddit/Whatever. It’s mostly people from a side of Twitter that I never really interacted with. I want a little bit more humor in my feed.
I’m curious what instances the people of sh.itjust.works are using. Hopefully I can find one that vibes with me.
Hachyderm is my instance. It’s heavily influenced by techy people, but there’s a bit of everything there. Strong culture of safety for social justice - some of the most followed LGBTQ and Black accounts post from there. I’d highly recommend.
Others I’ve enjoyed browsing are indieweb.social and toot.community
i like fosstodon.org, lots of nerdy posts but it’s right up my alley. I use arch linux btw.
Unfortunately I don’t have any tips, just wanted to say I’m on mastodon.social as well and man I agree about the explore tab. It’s no fun at all to go over there. Same few accounts, same few whiny posts.
I run my own personal calckey instance (similar to mastodon but with eye candy). I had to federate myself so my feed is mostly people I thought were cool enough to follow and my global feed gets bigger everyday the more I federate. It’s pretty cool butit’s pretty lonely at the start. I’ve used toot.cat in the distance past and it was pretty cool.
