Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov invited Ukrainian parents to “collect their children” taken from Ukraine amid the ongoing war.

What could possibly go wrong with that. I heard the Russians have been very trustworthy in the recent past.

See, it was all just a misunderstanding. Just travel into the country that’s been bombing your country for over a year and show up at the lost and found office.

So they have no shame to admit they have committed war crimes. And as a parent I would be sceptical if I am safe collecting the children.

There is also many complications when citizens of a country they are at war with enter the other country. The most reasonable thing to do would be to bring the kids near the border where they would be collected by officials or an organization which makes sure the kids find a safe way home.

Parents will do almost anything in order to be able to be with their children again, no matter how unsafe. That’s one of the reasons this is so messed up.

At what point do we start to discuss how evil the Russian regime is? I mean, this is feeling like we are approaching the lines in the sand that we drew after WWII, if we haven’t already blown past them.

I have no desire to lose more lives, but this is evil. How can any country support Russia in this?

Hey families, come on over to our um… kids camp… and while you’re here, can you help us inspect our walk-in ovens? Does is smell like a gas leak in there?

Conservatives are addicted to committing genocide. Every policy conservatives hold and every law they pass (no matter what country) is designed to inch closer to genocide. Every time.

Didn’t they deny taking these children in the first place? Now they’re trying to trap the parents by using the children as bait. Russia delenda est.

Putin still enjoys widespread public support, and the vast majority of the Russian public supports both the explicit goals of the war as well as the implicit ones. This is a problem bigger than Putin, bigger than the oligarchs, and bigger than the current regime.

          Sources?

Every Russian I’ve interacted with has expressed their distate for Putin.

This is a problem bigger than Putin, bigger than the oligarchs, and bigger than the current regime.

So could you explicitly point to what the problem is? Bc it seems to me that the oligarchs and Putin have been doing their best to brainwash and ensure that they remain in power, to the detriment of the Russian people.

Every Russian I’ve interacted with has expressed their distate for Putin.

The ones you have interacted with online or in other countries are going to be less likely to support due to their age, education, and socio-economic status. Classic confirmation bias.

So could you explicitly point to what the problem is?

Explicitly? There is no simple answer. There has been brainwashing, no doubt. But look at Russian history. This isn’t an anomaly. Culturally they appear to favor authoritarianism, nationalism, and strong man mentality in their politics.

The simple solution is education and multiculturalism. But that answer isn’t really simple.

              Thanks for the info.

Culturally they appear to favor authoritarianism, nationalism, and strong man mentality in their politics.

Yeah, while I understand that there is an element of that that’s uniquely Russian, I mean that was also much of the world for much of history.

But like you said, no easy answer.

And yeah obviously the people I interact with outside of Russia will give a different perspective. I just always got the vibe from them that a large portion of the population resented Putin, but apparently that’s less of a vibe than I thought.

This is all heresay but there were a few reporters over in Russia just asking random people in the street what they thought about the “Special Operation”; most of them answered that it was good that the Nazis were killed and that Ukraine should be brought back into the Motherland. Propaganda is one HELL of a drug.

Most of the Russians I have talked too over the past year also dislike the War and what Russians are doing there. But mind you these are people that no longer live IN Russia or people who left BECAUSE of the war. So there is that

That is exactly what makes this ‘invite’ from Lavrov so fucking insidious.

Because it makes it look like you don’t care about your children if you don’t. It’s a yet another weapon deployed by a side that are constantly firing all kinds of weapons.

Not so much looking like a bad parent. Maybe feeling like bad parent. I mean, I don’t know that I could pass it up, if there was even a tiny chance to get them back. The guilt of not going would probably drive me to dark places.

But there is no chance. Lavrov has done nothing but talk complete and utter shit from day one. It’s his job as Putin’s lap dog. To create sound bites that Russian supporters can latch on to.

He knows he’s talking pure shit, everyone with an actual brain knows he is. He doesn’t care that the world laughs at him when he moves his mouth. Because that’s not who he’s speaking to.

He’s speaking to the Tucker Carlson/Fox News/GB News/other nation’s equivalent type troglodytes who think that Russia are doing the right thing and blah blah blah.

          It’s all propaganda.

Imagine if Goebbels told you, as a Jew that if you wanted your kids back all you had to do was travel to Berlin. Pinky promise! Of course you wouldn’t even give it a second to consider. You would know it was complete bullshit.

Aren’t illegal invasions what you hate about western imperialism?

Anyone can draw a map, doesn’t mean it is actually true or that the people living in them want to be part of Russia. Not everyone is as dumb as you hexbears.

Canada is doing nothing of the sort, you just fall (or help spread) Russian propaganda.

Every country that starts a war and invades sovereign nations is dumb, yes. Evil as well.

Russia had no say in the decoupling of their economy from the rest of the world, that was because of the sanctions by NATO members, lol.
