Fleet Foxes are, to me, at their best when they’re being experimental. Crack-Up needs more love.
The self-titled album felt like the story of an innocent boy, Helplessness Blues felt like that boy was heading out into the big world, and Crack-Up feels like the consequences of that, and the loss of innocence.
Fool’s Errand is one of the best tracks on that record for sure.
Yes! 100%.
I need to listen to more of their stuff. I’m only familiar with white winter hymnal, well and now this song. Any other recs?
Their first album is closer to White Winter Hymnal - Your Protector and Blue Ridge Mountains are my faves off that album. Grow Ocean and The Plains/Bitter Dancer are probably the most Helplessness Blues songs besides Helplessness Blues (and people talk about The Shrine a lot for good reason. Crack-Up is my favorite of theirs, and I’d most recommend On Another Ocean and Third of May. Shore is really great, too, and a bit more digestible, but I admit I haven’t listened to it as much. All their albums have some folky bangers and some Weird Ones, and most of the videos are really artsy too.
